Yes, I grayed out the stuff you probably don't want -- but left it there because someone may one day find it interesting. I use it when a series e.g. Raymond E. Feist's Riftwar series, or The Legend of Drizzt, has multiple "series'" in one universe. As far as I am concerned, the "series" is Riftwar or The Legend of Drizzt -- but the breakdown is still useful IMO.

Good idea, but as you will see (post #14) it caused an error on my Kindle when I left it there.

I expect that is because I do not have a Subseries column in my Calibre.

Yes, I realize. I added a disclaimer (to everyone's posts). Hopefully that will prevent anyone else from coming across it and getting confused (even assuming they don't read the whole thread, which does shockingly happen

I like to use the Send to Kindle program to put my books in the Kindle Cloud and on my Paperwhite at the same time. That way I can use Whispersync to sync with my phone.

To do this I use a template for Calibre's Save To Disk feature.

Code:

{series} {series_index} - {title} - {authors}

The only problem is that if there is no series it will I end up with "- " at the beginning of the title. Then I use a directory renaming tool to easily strip those away.

Uses prefix/suffix so it only gets placed if the item itself exists.

Of course, when you use Send to Kindle it doesn't matter anymore -- Aazon will recreate the filename based on their metadata.

Also calibre has send-to-email built in, so you can just email to your send-to-kindle email address.

I'm not seeing that. My books go in as docs and they retain the filename. Ex:
"Parker 2 - Man With the Getaway Face, The - Richard Stark"

Thanks for taking the trouble to do that. I promise I did read the whole thread, as it was at the time, and again now.

I just was not sure what to omit. Much clearer now.

Oh, you're clear -- don't worry.

Now that I clarified it in one place, I was concerned people would only see the unclarified quotes.
But that wasn't your problem unless you have a time machine -- if so I want a ride.

Resend them to the Kindle? Yes. The plugboard only "operates" when a book is sent to the device.
