HD firefly?

I spoke to Amazon today and got a CS rep who seemed to know about the roll out. He said its completed now so all HD tablets should have it. Mine still doesn't so he was going to refer me on to second line support. No email to confirm that though so I have no idea if he actually has referred me or not.

Anyway it's not important just would have been nice to have.

I had no idea what it was, but it showed up on my between the help and wireless icons on my "settings bar" or whatever it is -- what you get when you pull down from the top. It's also in my Apps Menu. I was just trying to get up the gumption to figure out what it was for, but now I can just read about it here.

I took a look at the UK Fire HD6 product page. I just skimmed the description, but I don't see Firefly mentioned there. On the US Fire HD6 page, that feature is prominently highlighted. I noticed that the device model numbers are actually different.

The description for the "new" HDX 8.9 in the UK states (emphasis mine):

It looks like Firefly may not be available on Fire HD6 in the UK at this time.

Edit: Apparently, some Fire HD6 owners in the UK have received Firefly on their device, so never mind...

It is, people on the UK Kindle Discussions thread have mentioned getting it. Plus I spoke to Amazon UK Customer Services.

Thanks. I just added a note to that effect in my last post.

My guess is that you will see Firefly on your Fire HD6 about a week after you received the 4.5.3 update. That's how it's worked for many in the U.S., anyway.

Unfortunately I've had the 4.5.3 update a lot longer than a week now already.

Edited to add it installed on the 18th Feb according to the Fire.

Not sure how often I will use this in real life situations. I don't carry my Fire around when I go out and about. I am thinking this is more useful on the fire phone.

I don't have kids, but I an see how that could keep them entertained for a while.

It gets songs too I think, although I didn't try it yet. On the TV show it puts all the info on the screen with a handy link to the instant video store.

I checked my HD6 and sure enough it was there. Haven't played with it too much yet, but I did find out it recognizes dogs as well as cats

It also worked well for recognizing a song hubby was listening to but couldn't remember either the name or the artist. Firefly gave me both and of course told me it was available as mp3, what album it was on and how much

I don't know how much I'll use it, I don't have kids either, but it might keep me entertained for awhile

Amazon's Firefly.......no idea, still don't have it.
