I usually catch those as soon as they've been posted and PM the person who posted it. Then they can: resize it - or I can resize it for them - or they can detete it. If you'd like I can resize yours for you.

That is fine. With one tiny little exception: would be nice if the attached and inlined image could be displayed at original size or at least reduced to the 800x600 limit. Have not found a way to inline an attachment at 800x600 without also having the thumbnail visible.

And quoting won't work - won't display the image again without jumping through hoops.

It can absolutely be displayed at original size. Click on the image and it pops up, same dimensions as the size limit. Right-click to open or click the quoted link and you see the whole thing.

I am unsure what you actually want, besides full size images inline.

It seems to me that attachments (with or without thumbnails) fulfill every necessary criteria as closely as the rules allow.

Yes, true. It requires extra steps. You cannot automatically assume that a monitor and a mouse with right click is used to view the forum. Me? I mostly use my phone exclusively to read MR. The popup when clicking ends up mostly partially outside the screen area - and when trying to scroll it disappears. Blame my inferior browser (Chrome) for not doing it better. Look at how Alan posts most his images that are large - they are a link to the full size image and show up within the size limit for in forum view. Perfect, easy to view on my phone - and can be made bigger if necessary. That is what I want to be able to do with attached images.

Did I mention that the popups are horrid if using a mobile device for MobileRead?

Click the image again, after it pops up, and it will open in another tab, just like alan's linked images.

If he wishes to go to the extra effort of hosting images offline in multiple sizes and doubly linked, that is fine and admirable. Just saying the forum provides an easy-to-use feature that almost-but-not-quite matches that, and which far too many people all over MobileRead seem to forget about.
