I haven't really played with it much yet. I did downgrade it to 4.4. First impression was wow my almost 2 year old Aura HD has a much nicer screen, light and faster page turns. So the majority of my reading (epubs) will be done on my Kobo. But having said that I'm not sorry I bought this because I wanted a larger screen ereader with front light to read PDFs.

Unfortunately Pocketbook Inkpad ordered is missing. It came all the way to USPS post office in california bay area and tracking said out for delivery and vanished ! No updates on USPS website. I have lodged a complaint with local post office. They told they will look into it. It was scanned at the post office and they say postman may have misplaced. What accountability.. anyway keeping fingers crossed. does anyone done in these situations and will paypal refund the money if item not delivered.

My unit arrived in NYC on March 1 and is now "sitting" in US Customs. USPS (sent by registered mail) has no way of predicting how long it will take to clear customs and be returned to their system for delivery! USPS assured me that it would not be lost but stated that it could be held by USC for up to 45 days.

It's a pretty standard item that Customs will have no problem in categorizing. It's just a matter of someone getting to it. I wouldn't expect more than a day or two delay, unless they have serious manpower shortages.

Since it has been sitting there since Sunday afternoon, I assumed it is simply a volume vs. manpower issue. I had a package sent from the Czech Republic last year that sat in this limbo for ten days and was delivered the day after it was finally released. Really looking forward to putting the 840 through its paces.

Mine came eventually! Ironically I was not super excited seeing it. Size looked smaller, lot of bezel space around this and quite heavy as well compared to Kindle. My expectations were very high! It is in latest version. Today I am going to load up 16 GB of pdf/epub on to a microSD card and see how it searches/performs. excited nevertheless

I have a 64 GB microSD with pdf, epub, mp3 and searching on it is pretty fast.

All I did is used Fat32 Format to format my microSD card. Go here:
http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/ind...?guiformat.htm Works also with my Kobo. Last edited by pugs466; 03-06-2015 at 01:09 AM. |

Okay...mine arrived this afternoon (3/7) safe and sound and almost fully charged!
Definitely v 5.4. I d'l two books from my Calibre library to the "English" book folder (internal) one of which was an ePub and the other a Mobi. Deleted most of the books in the English folder. I deleted all of the other non-English language book folders/files including the two in Cyrillic. Went through the setup and had to do some minor tweaking afterward but all appears well so far. Installed and reformatted a 32 Gig SD card but have not placed anything on it as yet. Figured out how to bring up book settings and changed font size, margins, and spacing on both of the d/l titles. Figured out how to return to home page. So far, in the brief time I looked at both books, I have seen no real issues as yet but will start doing some serious reading on it tonight and tomorrow and see how things progress. Set up wifi connection with no problem and then turned it off. I am sure I will have numerous questions over the next week or so but will scan the forum first so as to not clog things up here with unnecessary repetition. Love the screen size, feel and weight. The "chocolate brown" looks more like dark bronze. Thanks in advance for any help and suggestions. My primary use for this will be solely as an ePub/Mobi reader as for everything else I will continue using my LG G3. So that will be the focus of how I want to set this up and use it. Anyone interested in "jailbroke" Kindle DX in great shape with accessories??? Last edited by p38lightning; 03-07-2015 at 10:00 PM. |

First issue with my 840:
Example, I loaded "KOReader"(Pocketbook version) and its icon appears when you tap the chevrons at the bottom of the home screen. However, when you tap the icon, it takes you to the 840 File manager and a folder for those KOR files is nowhere to be found. In addition to not being able to start up KOR, I can't even access the files to delete them! I am assuming that if I choose to downgrade to 4.4, I am going to need to see what I am doing in Windows File Explorer. PS: Unit is recognized by Calibre and it loads directly into the "Books" folder. Thanks in advance. Last edited by p38lightning; 03-08-2015 at 11:11 PM. |

Follow-up:
Figured out how to get all of the folders/files to display in Windows File Explorer. Deleted KOR folder from within the 840. KOR application icon remained but no longer opens up the files within the reader. If you click on it, it simply goes back to the home page so I no longer have access to the 840 internal file manager. Other problem is that Windows Defender software is seeing many files as malware and deleting them. I did both a reinstall of the v 5.4 software and a factory reset and got it all back except for the original files I deleted as explained in #236. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
