Doesn't the frontlight aim the light down through the text, and then it is reflected back to the reader?

Yeah, I have a little external solar charger in case of emergency. I also have a little AAA battery powered one. I'd rather have those in reserve than count on the device being solely solar-charged, though I can see its use in improving reading access in some areas of the world where power is hard to come by.
