I'm 100% sure I needn't mention this, (which, of course, is why I'm doing it...), but for you and any other folks out there needing companionship, there are literally millions of needy kitties looking for homes at shelters and rescues.

We had our two cats from a rescue organisation a couple of years ago. It's been amazing seeing them change from the scared, shy little things they were to the confident, comfortable cats that they are today.

Sorry for your loss, Peter.

Sorry about your cat. I had to have our boxer put down due to a tumour, and it was not a lot of fun (he was running into walls, as it had sent him blind). A nice resolution to the card problem though.

Sorry for your loss, Peter.
+1 to Peter!

All of our kitties have been the result of the neighborhood feral mom cats knowing where the soft touch was and dropping their babies on our door step.

We recently lost (to old age) Baby Cat, who was so named because her mom abandoned her under our mailbox literally hours (maybe minutes) after birth. She still had her umbilical cord attached, and we had to tube feed her every two hours around the clock because she didn't know how to suckle yet.

We also had to teach her how to eliminate because mom cats have to do that for their babies for the first week or so.

Sorry to hear about your cat, PeterT. I lost Shadow, a German shepherd, to Hemangiosarcoma. Takes a while to bounce back.

Very glad to hear that the credit card company came through.

Sorry to hear about your cat. Losing a friend of another species can be as difficult as losing just about anyone.

My vent and Rant. ... Arwen farts. OMG

Ok ok, I know I have extravagant cats right now, but they are the first purchased cats in many many years of owning cats. Besides, they were a bribe to keep me from traveling for work

She's doing something. She's always had toxic poos, not to mention she was hand raised so never learned it. Sometimes Strider will cover it up but if he's off doing something else I just pick it up and dispose of it properly. I suppose that's one way to assure a clean box.

Anyway, even with the toxic poos, I'd never noticed these hair curling farts

Sorry for your loss PeterT - and the house does seem incredibly empty afterwards -- adding a new kitty will help the hurt ...

It does seem empty! We'll probably wait a few weeks and then start looking around and see what can be found.

Again thanks to all for the kind words.

This is a weight-loss-related rant, so I questioned whether to put it here or in the diet thread. Anyway, I am back on Weight Watchers, which works for me. 've been living with my mother since my stepfather passed. In some ways, this is helpful. In some ways, this is not.

She is healthy and never had a weight issue, so she doesn't understand some things. She got testy when I asked how much shredded cheese and how much dried (no sugar added, though) cherries she put in the salad with dinner last night. I had just counted on fresh veg and the requisite amt. of healthy oil. Not asking to make my own salad was my fault, too, I guess. I didn't get home until almost 6, so she already had it made.

This all probably sounds very ungrateful. *sigh* I just wish I could get my mother to understand my need to count and track and also the dairy component of the program. She knows it works for me, she encouraged me to get back on it. Not getting upset when I ask for amounts when she cooks and her not questioning why collard greens can't fulfill my dairy good health guideline would be nice.

Would it be helpful if she went with you to Weight Watchers so they could explain the program to her and answer any questions she may have?
