I have a basic Kindle, probably called here a 4NT. Running latest software per Amazon. Not jailbroken (is that what one calls it?) or tinkered with in any way.
It has had various users who have added and deleted books by various methods. I now want to clear all existing books, all reading history and any left over files relating to deleted books before I pass this on. Using Windows which files should I delete to leave a virgin Kindle and which ones should I not touch at all? |

Don't do it through Windows, just go to menu, settings, menu, reset to factory defaults. This will turn it back to a virgin

I would think that the best way to tidy up an old Kindle would be to buy this new book from Amazon and load it into the Kindle, stand back, and watch your life change:
"The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing [Kindle Edition]" |

Sorry, forgot to say do this from the home page...when you have reset your kindle then if you are passing it on turn on the wireless and deregister it
Home page menu, settings, deregister. |

Yes, a Factory Reset is by far the best way to do it.

I occasionally do a factory reset just to make everything neat. I do wish Kindle would allow us to separate read from unread books when we're viewing the cloud, though.

Does a factory reset go back to the original firmware or keep the last firmware installed?

Thanks for all the quick responses.
I will give the Factory Reset a go. |
