I use these as well, really like them for travel since they fold and the sound is good. I don't like having to stuff things in my ears.

I am currently using Sennhiser HD 25-1.
Sound Quality... Awesome.
Sadly their massive size makes them totally impractical for convenient use, when dog walking. (which is when I listen to most of my audio books)

I am going to switch to some high end ear buds. Maybe some of these:

I use these for both music and audio books. Feel a bit strange at first but actually work brilliantly. Not having the extra Bluetooth battery weight hanging from your ears means long sessions are now very comfortable.

I listen to audiobooks primarily on my iPhone, and I have a moderate hearing loss so voice clarity and noise reduction are an absolute must for me when listening to an audiobook. My husband bought me a pair of Koss headphones (not sure what model they are) and they work well for home use (a little too bulky for traveling, though). The earphones that came with my iPhone were horrible, so I bought a pair of Sennheiser CX 300 II Precision earbuds to use when traveling, and they work really well.

These inexpensive "Amazon Premium Headphones" (earbuds) are remarkably good for the price. I particularly like the ergonomics that ensure you don't end up with a tangled cord. And the sound quality is acceptable for music and more than acceptable for audio books.

The OP has not said what cans were chosen. So I'll just go with my original recommendation and say to get the Koss Portapro. Very nice. Very compact. Nice sounding.

If you're listening to audio books only then really the only consideration is how they feel on your head or in your ears because the sound quality won't matter. So get to a store and try some on.

Whilst I agree comfort is certainly the most important consideration I think, especially with later audio books with multiple narrators or increased narrator acting, that sound quality is important as well. I've recently listened to a couple of audio dramas, The Starling Project by Jeffrey Deaver and The Child by Sebastian Fitzek and these definitely were enhanced using higher quality audio equipment.

My wife listens mostly in bed. I got her the wireless version of these for her birthday last year, and now she can't do without them.

Oh, I keep looking at these! How do they sound? Do they stay in place? Are they hot? Do they totally mess up her hair? How big are the speakers? Will they work for side sleepers, like further on side than picture on web site?

My wife's reply:

Sound great for audiobooks. They are about 2x2 flat squares. I am a total side sleeper and they are comfy. Not terribly hot, but they are fleece. It always feels good when I take them off (cooler), but they don't bother me. Do not mess up my hair. I love them, in fact, I am considering the runphones for day use.

Can these be worn with glasses? I have problems with over the ear headphones putting pressure on my ear pieces.

My wife puts on her glasses with them in the morning and says she has no problem. And she's a delicate flower, so I would definitely hear about it if she was uncomfortable.
