May I ask a simple question: does the current version support auto sleep? It seems I can only put the device to sleep mode manually.

I can still read other djvu's (currently using built 2014.11.93) but I can't open this djvu from archive org https://archive.org/details/leromanrusse00voguoft

"no reader engine found for this file"

of course I could download the alternative pdf, but koreader is straining to open those big dark scans. "Le Roman Russe" opens in Windows DjView. any ideas?

You can also install DjView reader on PC and quickly export that problematic djvu file to pdf.

Pdf will be a ten times bigger but should be easily readable(quickly opened and flipped through) on einks or tablets, compared to those problematic pdfs from archive-org.

Or you can save problematic pdf (downloaded from archive-org) to images and combine those images back in pdf.

I knew about the second method, markom, but I tried the pdf export from DjView for the first time, the pdf turned out 20 times bigger but koreader can handle it much better now. Thanks for this

We can also use k2pdfopt to transform djvu to pdf.

When using DjView it's good to choose b/w mode instead of color (under View menu-- Display--Stencil or Foreground) before exporting to pdf, so that pdf will be b/w i.e. showing white background instead of yellow, which will appear as dark gray on eink screen (resulting in poor contrast).

If Stencil view has been chosen Pdf file will also be smaller than with color.

That was most helpful, markom (export stencilled djvu to pdf with DjView). Now if I may continue this off-topic a bit further, what if I have only a dark pdf but no djvu file? Extract the single pages, make a new djvu? Or use pdf2djvu?

Hello! I’m here again Today my kobo glo’s charge ended. From 100% charge I used it maximum 2 weeks with suspend (not power off) mode every time (usage: about 1 hour per day, 2 days about 2-3 hours). Before, I usually used power off in nickel, and battery ended up in a month, that's why now I'm going to power off each time, but I can not do it from koreader itself.
I’m asking developers: could you add to koreader a proper power off function to the short slide button. Maybe , realizing by possibility of switching from suspend to power off… Now in koreader power off works with a long slide, but it does not work correctly. When I long slide - koreader/reader shuts down, but it doesn’t remember the last page, I guess it powers off in a wrong way - after 2-3 such long slides koreader reseted all the settings. As I wrote before, I use KSM, if it helps. Please consider my suggestion. Sorry if I’m annoying.

You could try replacing in koreader.sh

Code:
if [ $from_nickel -ne 0 ]; then
    # start kobo software because was running before koreader
    ./nickel.sh
else
    # if we were called from advboot then we must reboot to go to the menu
    if [ -d /mnt/onboard/.kobo/advboot ]; then
        reboot
    fi
fi
by
Code:
poweroff
or
Code:
/bin/busybox poweroff
With this change, the Exit (house) button of Koreader will power off. Is there a special reason you insist on powering off by slider?

tshering, thank you so much. It works!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll let you know if something go wrong.
There is no special reason to power off by slider, I just think if some people (including me) don't use suspend mode, it would be convenient to make such an option, which let us to choose the function of slider between power off and suspend, since long swipe dosn't work correctly. Thanx again )

Is there a way to set the default directory that is displayed when Koreader starts up?

I looked in defaults.lua and koreader.sh but I'm sure I missed something...

When reader.lua is called, the first argument tells the program where it is to open the File Manager function, to start the program. You should see in "koreader.sh" where "./reader.lua" is called with "$args" as the first argument. You can replace the "$args" with the address of the directory you want File Manager to open at koreader start. For mine it is:
./reader.lua /mnt/sd/.Koreader/Books/ 2> crash.log

Luck;
Ken

Question

I have been running Koreader for the last month, starting it from KSM on my Glo (running 3.12). However, I have two problems:

1. Koreader will not go in to suspend when I close my Glo Sleep Cover - the light switches off but I can see that the text remains on the screen rather than the book cover.

2. If I suspend the reader using the slider, the book cover comes up (suggesting the reader is in sleep mode) but I am still getting inordinate battery use - I now only get 4 days battery compared to 4 weeks using Nickel.

Any ideas as to how I can sort these issues?

I'm not a fan of the sleep cover, there are plenty of magnetic objects in my world. Still they seem to work for some.

With such battery use I would wonder if the suspend function were introducing a loop, that is consuming some power. If we were at Github, I would suggest swapping out "suspend.sh" with the ones in KSM and Sergey's Launcher. If one of them solves the problem, it would do a lot to identify the needed fix. (Sergey's latest version appears to have fixed a similar problem for another poster.)

You might want to see if making sure the WiFi is turned off before using suspend, makes a difference.

Luck;
Ken
