Indesign
I'm having problems validating my epub file. I've made an epub file in indesign and when I export that epub file every thing is ok I get no errors at all. But when I validate that same epub file in Sigil I get tons of errors like: This resource is reachable but not present in the OPF <manifest>. "Reachable" means that a reference of some kind that points to this resource exists in the epub.
But when I check my epub file in indesign all the images are linked and none of the links are missing. How is this possible and how do I solve this please help!!???? |

Add the pictures properly.
![]() ID may not care where or what case the file is. Sigil does In Sigil, all images MUST appear (and be valid) in the Images section for it to validate. Run the Report tool: Look over the images section: 0 uses may mean the IMG tag has issues (The flip side is the missing images you see) |

Even worse (I assume you're using Sigil's built-in Flight Crew validator) you may find even more errors when you run it through Epubcheck. (And note that Epubcheck is a requirement for Apple and some other retailers.) Flight Crew for example will pass an empty web link, but Epubcheck won't.

If the end result is to be an epub, InDesign is a silly place to start. It encourages you into a type of meticulous page-based layout that is quite unsuited to ebooks which must be readable on a variety of devices with different screen sizes and different user preferences for orientation, text size etc.
When a book has been prepared for print using InDesign, we may be stuck with translating that format to epub. But don't CHOOSE all the problems that brings if you don't have to! |
