NOTE: The trial month is supposed to be free, but I had $1 charged to my PayPal account. This may be one of those things where they make a small charge to ensure that your payment method is valid and then refund the charge later. Even if they don't, $1 isn't bad for 2 audiobooks.

I've never used AudioBooks.com before, so I'm not familiar with them at all. Does anyone know if there's a way to save audiobooks from AudioBooks.com to a PC, as an MP3 for example?

They also have several audiobooks on sale for $5 on their sale page. One title has been on my wishlist As You Wish by Cary Elwes, which is a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the cult classic film The Princess Bride.

The FAQ says no: "Audiobooks.com currently offers downloadable files to iOS and Android devices only."

I don't get it. They're charging the same amount as Audible, but they're limiting your access more than Audible does, since you can't download to your PC. Why would anyone choose them over Audible? (I might sign up for the free trial anyway, though, just to listen to a couple of books.)

Actually, I'd be fine with saving to MP3 or similar on an iOS or Android device and transferring from there to a PC, if that's possible. That way I have the flexibility to transfer the files to my Sansa or wherever. I was just hoping someone here knew if this was possible or if you're completely locked in to the apps.

I agree with you - if you can only play audiobooks through the apps and the price is the same, you may as well stay with Audible (except for the occasional freebie).

Whenever I've downloaded an audiobook file to my Android phone--Audible, Scribd, Kindle Unlimited--I haven't been able to access the file on the phone to move it to my PC and thence to my Clip Zip. Heck, I haven't even been able to SEE the audio files when I connect the phone to the computer. So I'm assuming that this app will likewise hide the file and make it inaccessible.

I can understand it with KU and Scribd, since with them you clearly know that you're borrowing/renting, not buying, but I'm not paying for something I can't access on my PC and can't use on the device I prefer to use.

This apparently is a very good book. I couldn't find any ratings at Audible for the audiobook, but the ebook is rated 5 stars, from 39 reviews at the present moment, at Amazon!

It is nearly 6 hours in listening length. If you want to learn more about the audio, I suggest that you check here.

You get this special price of $4.98 by first purchasing the ebook at Amazon for only $0.99. Then you can buy the Whispersync audiobook, there on the same webpage if you would like to, for only $3.99. "Throw away" the ebook and ignore the Whispersync feature if you want, you've still got the audio, and it's cost you only $4.98!

I haven't read or listened to the book yet, but I would expect the author to approach her subject from a "Christian" perspective, given that the ebook is published by a "Christian" publisher (David C. Cook).

You just have to click on their username, then click "public profile", and it'll tell you the last time they were on.

The HOP2 code worked perfectly. I got an alert from the bank about the $1.00 charge because it appeared to be an international charge to the bank () but when I called customer service they said it was just an authorization that would be backed out within 24 hours.

And while I was on the phone with them I took advantage of this (in bold), buried in the FAQ:

What is a book credit?

1 book credit allows you to listen to any audio book in our library. If you find yourself wanting to listen to more books, you can add book credits to your subscription as you go.

Ultimately, the inability to move it to my PC or other storage isn't a problem for me. I use free credits like this for stuff I'll listen to once and won't think about again: Star Wars or Clive Cussler novels.
