By the way, I am new to Kobo. And this is bad: Why is Kobo Price-Gouging Some Customers But Not Others?
The same thing happens to me at Amazon: once I log in the price changes, sometimes it doubles after logging in. I don't think it is deliberate, just a bug in their website. For some reason when Kobo does the slightest thing wrong people scream blue murder, but when Amazon do exactly the same thing or worse, nobody cares.

Again, to be fair, when I've had a problem with Amazon I have been able to contact their customer service quickly and easily, the problem was handled promptly, and I was usually satisfied with the resolution.

And I have far more dealings with Amazon, and far, far fewer reasons to contact their customer service.

I agree, I had two some warranty issues with products I bought at Amazon.
All it took was just one contact with Amazon Customer Care to solve it (getting the products replaced) promptly.

Solving problems or questions (even the simple ones) in one customer contact seems to be impossible for Kobo.

The replacement coupon code I received did and still does not work. I contacted Kobo about this for the third time now.
The first two answers of Kobo only contained a detailed step by step instruction how to use a coupon. That was and is not the problem. The problem was and is that the provided coupon code does not work on books that are elligible for the use promo codes: a coupon code could be entered at checkout (but de code itself was rejected).

Update: reveived another Kobo response: Kobo has tested the coupon code and stated that it worked or was active.
However, when I try to use the code it was not accepted or could not be applied. Still no discount here.
Contacting Kobo for the fourth time about this simple problem.

Hmm...are you using old checkout or new checkout? Not long ago, Kobo sent a 30% comeback-we-miss-you code to my account which is using the old checkout, and I kept getting the error message of "invalid promo code" when I tried it out on several coupon eligible books. The code is usable on new checkout, though.

February Contest - BOOKS ON FILM Trivia Contest

The new contest is up but isn't working correctly yet (at least in the US). I tried all 4 answers to today's question but got an error with all of them. The contest page still shows that I haven't answered today's question. I got an email with a blank code and percentage discount.

Quote:

http://the-digital-reader.com/2012/1...ut-not-others/

While some retailers like Amazon like to selectively discount prices in order to get you in the door, other sites like Kobo prefer to jack up the prices charged to their regular customers.

Got a few minutes? Go check out the price on this ebook at Kobo: Frozen Heat. Make a note of the price and then log in (or log out). If you can see 2 different prices (I do) depending on whether you're logged in to your account, congratulations.

Kobo is gouging you on the price (unless you see a price discrepancy the other way, which is possible).
In Canada, there is a Scanning Code of Practice (SCOP) which protects customers from this kind of Kobo's misleading prices.

Scanning Code of Practice (SCOP): "If the scanned price of a non-price ticketed item (an item with a barcode that doesn’t have a price tag stuck to it) is higher than the shelf price or any other displayed price, the customer is entitled to receive the item free, up to a $10 maximum. When the item has a price tag, the lowest price applies. When identical items are incorrectly priced, the second one will be sold at the correct price."

SCOP is voluntary and thus can only be useful to consumers if Kobo participates in the program.

Same coupon value distribution as before. We should receive a lot of 35% off codes.

Not sure if I use the old or new checkout. After reading your post I switched browsers. Coupon does not work with Firefox (my default browser), Chrome and IE11.

I didn't even enter the contest--all I did was click on the main contest page and then decide I was too lazy to go through with it. But I still got a 20% off coupon!
