here is Nate's review : http://the-digital-reader.com/2014/1...etbook-inkpad/

(I passed on an e-ink ereader ... ordered a lenovo tab s8-50 which was kind of cheap at 161E ... may be I ll try an e-ink ereader later if the s8-50 is not comfortable enough to read with my (kind of weak) eyes ...)

Those that updated their firmware can finally return to the 4.4 version.
PocketBook published the firmware on their corporate page.

Happy, but...

I'm quite happy with my InkPad, I bought it for its screen size and don't regret it. Two bugs annoy me, though -- I don't know if they are InkPad-specific or also occur with other Pocketbook readers?
With ePub, every now and then (like, every 10 to 20 pages) the InkPad refuses to show the next page and gives me a blank screen instead. The only reliable way to see the missing text is to change the zoom factor and thus make the reader re-do the page breaks.
With PDF, it bothers me that I cannot disable the area at the bottom of the screen where the InkPad displays its page numbers. This way I only get 7.5" of actually usable screen size instead of 8".
Reply from support was fast and friendly enough, they said they know the problems and are working on them, and there'll be an update in a few weeks. Particularly the blank-page-instead-of-text bug is rather nasty, and I really hope they'll fix it soon. If not, do you know any way to work around it?

This only happens with AdobeViewer. You can choose to use another built-in epub reader called FBReader which is much faster and doesn't show blank pages. Just go to the book library, press and hold your finger on some epub book to bring up the context menu and then choose Open with -> FBReader.

if you downgrade to 4.4, bottom panel size should be reduced.

Thank you, this sounds great. I don't see this option, though. Context menu only gives me "Book Info / ReadRate / Add to bookshelf / All books of author / File (copy/move/delete) / Select" -- that's also what the manual says -- I seem to be able to open a file only with a short tap, where I get no choice of readers!?

I guess you might need to downgrade to firmware 4.4. It's funny that older firmware version has more features...

got the same problem - what I do then is to close and re-open the book.

It doesnt look like Pocketbook updates the InkPad firmware very often so I dont have high hopes of getting it fixed.

And no - I dont want to downgrade

Any way to install an alternate reader and make it the default on the latest OS?

The other thing that bothers me is the integration of collection/shelves into calibre - Kobo works much better there.

Overall for me the screen size still makes it worth for me since there are no better alternatives

Yes, you can install KOReader. Anyway, you are missing a lot of features by not downgrading to 4.4.
