Always portrait. I tried reading in landscape with 2 pages on a 10" screen, but didn't like it. I prefer not to read at all then....

Portrait when reading, and landscape when watching a movie (Kindle Fire).

for me it depends on the device and whether it's being handheld or sitting on a table/stand. Handheld with modern tablet-esque devices, like my Kindle, I prefer portrait primarily because the device balances better in my hand. When I use my 8" Windows tablet I usually read with it on a stand in 2-column landscape mode. I use it in single column portrait mode when I'm reading handheld. When I used earlier low resolution small screen devices (Sony Clie PalmOS devices like the UX50 in my avatar and HP 320LX WinCE devices) I usually used landscape in order to get a decent line length with a decent character size. |

I prefer to read in portrait mode mainly because that is what I'm used to. To me, the key is that the ebook is formatted to display properly on the screen. It's for that reason that I prefer to format my ebooks as PDF, I can count on them looking exactly as intended on my ereader's screen.

Portrait for novels and magazines. If I'm reading articles on my iPad then landscape.

I typically read portrait on my devices with one exception. On my iPad4 I prefer reading books in landscape with double columns. It's disappointing how many apps do not offer double columns. |

I'm not confused. I know what I mean. I buy speculative fiction, and all of my books are in epub and azw3. I don't have fiction books in pdf format. Pdf files I have are either scientific articles or magazines and I don't read those on kindle. I read them on my tablet. |
