They at least use the best converter software out there for making sure that the books are compatible with different ereaders.

Does anyone know why there are separate versions for different readers? Is there a lot of art or graphics that need to have different resolutions? Also, when buying books it looks like there are three different choices for epub on the first book - epub for Nook, iPad or Sony, epub for Kobo, and epub for iPad 1, 2. Huh?
