B&N might be slightly harder to setup to remove the DRM, but once set, it's no harder than Amazon.

So when it comes to stripping DRM, the best OS to use is Windows.
Kobo ebooks are not trivial at all if I want to read a drm free book right away on my tablet because I have no way to download it. And I really dislike the Kobo app. If it's drm free I should be able to download and read on whatever app I choose.

And can you download DRM-free directly from Amazon onto a tablet? No...

Personally, I don't think the inability to use a tablet like a real computer is a shortcoming of the vendor platform.

And if you decided that you wanted to use Bluefire Reader as your reading app and you have a DRM free eBook from Amazon, it's a no go. You'd have to download to the computer, load into Calibre and convert it to ePub.

One way that works very well is to do most of the work (buying, downloading, DRM removal (if there is any DRM), conversion) and if the tablet is Android, use Calibre Companion to manage your eBooks. If it's an iPad, use Dropbox.

Huh? I was only commenting on Kobo's screw up. I never said anything about Amazon. And I'm not trying to use a tablet as a computer. If an epub ebook is drm free I should be able to download it and use it immediately. All on my tablet.

I'm confused. All I said is that I should be able to download and read a drm free epub on my tablet. Just like I can do from the MobileRead library. I made no mention of Amazon.

Then please stop confusing people by quoting someone's response to a comment about how easy different walled gardens are to use/circumvent.

And I am not particularly bothered by the inability to download direct on a tablet specifically.

The comment I quoted said Kobo was easy to deal with. I was simply refuting that statement.

The comment you quoted had a magical concept called context.

So like I said... you confused people.

I'm immune to magic. Apparently I confused myself as well.

What I do is use Dropbox to store eBooks I might want to read on my iPad or iPhone. Works very well to download them.

That does of course require having set it up beforehand on a computer, at which point the issue of DRM/walled gardens has already been sorted out.

Doesn't particularly help someone who bought a book on the go, either.

I will note that, owning an E-Ink Kindle, I can simply download from Amazon directly. So I suppose we all need to get Kindles.

Amazon is hands-down the absolute easiest to deal with... if you own a registered E-Ink Kindle.

Yes, until I ensure the books are safely converted in Calibre. For most of 2014 the tools didn't remove Amazon's DRM when adding multiple books. Fortunately, a recent tools update fixed that bug.

You know, everyone keeps saying that (importing multiple books fail) which confuses me because I never noticed any such thing.

Anyway -- stop Copy from syncing those books, and see if that helps. Either way, it is a waste.

There was a multiple eBook import fail. I only imported five Amazon eBooks at one time because there would be a DRM removal fail. Some reported they had to import one eBook at a time.
