So does the H2O use the finger swipe along the left side to adjust brightness, like the other IR Kobos, or the 2 finger swipe in the middle, like the Aura?

I get the impression that some people think the 2 finger swipe should work on other Kobos.

I was pleased to discover it works on my Aura even when using KoReader!

Single finger swipe at the edge.

Yup, which is a rather annoying gesture, TBH. Each time you hand the device to someone, one of the first thing they'll do is swipe around the left edge of the screen and mess your brightness settings up ^^. The lack of visual feedback (besides the obvious) also means that it's easy to mess with it without even realizing it. Now I understand why Amazon killed this gesture on the Kindles (granted, it was on the right side, and was a chapter jumping feature, so, rather more obvious).

Really? Every person you hand the device to automatically adjusts the light? I know this doesn't happen within my family. Unless we are going to use the device for a while. My wife is the person that would do it the quickest. But, she needs to do something much worse - adjust the font size. She reads using a MUCH bigger font than I do, so if I hand her my Glo to read, she can't.

Displaying the light level slider while doing this would be nice. But, I personally, I don't care what percent the level is at. I adjust until I get the light where it is comfortable. And this function is an advantage to me as it makes it easy to adjust whenever I need to.

The last time I played with a Kindle, a vertical swipe anywhere on the screen went jumped to the next chapter. Personally, I didn't think it was a bad idea. But, mainly I thought that Kobo where wasting a gesture on the device by not using vertical swipes when reading.

@davidfor: Not by design, of course . It's been my experience that people unfamiliar with ereaders tend to try to touch the screen in various ways, which was fun on a K4 (no touchscreen ^^), but is less so when some gestures mess with settings, be it light or font size .

I tend to stick with a specific brightness, so I know what to go back to, and since I mostly stick with it, the gesture is more of an annoyance to me . I'd be much happier with the harder-to-accidentally trigger two finger one from the Aura, for instance (but then again, I'd be much happier with a capacitive touchscreen, period, so ^^).

Yup, I quite liked the chapter jump gesture on Kindles too, but I kind of understand the reasoning behind killing it (which really was: people complained it was far too easy to trigger accidentally).

I tried the brightness swipe on Glo, Aura HD, my Android tablet and my Boyue e-ink Android and this feature does not work on any of them. Not sure if this feature is spesific thing to other devices like Kindle.

It's been a long time I checked/updated my koreader. Now, the suspend state in my Kobo H2O seems to be working. The frontlight turns off and the screensaver shows properly. Checking the battery, my H2O seems to be really in suspend mode as it is still operating after 3 days. Im' on the latest fw 12.0.1, and this is a new H2O I bought last month but I doubt any of its hardware has changed.

I'm curious how you got this to work. Can anyone please point me to any thread about it?

Could anyone provide popular manual how to install Koreader to KOBO Touch?

Hello. Is it possible to add "Power off" button to Koreader. I used this function on nikel, but here when I swipe (long swipe) the button reader goes to sleeping mode. Is it possible to make the same as in nikel, or to add this function to the menu of koreader. Thank you

The "Home" icon will exit Koreader, in the current versions. How did you launch Koreader? If you are using The Kobo Start Menu, you should return to that. (And KSM has a user configurable "Power off" option.)

Luck;

Thank you for anwer. Yes I use The Kobo Start Menu, I know about this way. But it would be more convenient if koreader itself also had this function. I mean if I want to use power off, every time I have to exit koreader and power off from menu, and then (when I turn it on next time) I have to open koreader, choose the book, and turn on frontlight. If there is other solutions or way to manually add "power off" to koreader, please let me know. Thank you very much.

Hi! What reader are you using? I am on a Kobo Aura H2O with the latest firmware installed (12.0.1).

The power off button (suspend mode) seems to be working for me. I used the latest nightly build from here:

https://github.com/koreader/koreader/releases

From what I remember, Frenzie edited the suspend script so that koreader will exit when the power button is pressed. This was a temporary fix because the older code would cause the reader to crash and we couldnt find out how to put the device in suspend mode. Frenzie's changes may have been removed in a later build. Cause I don't see it anymore in the file suspend.sh

Try downloading and installing the latest from the link above.
if that doesn't work,
Can you also try updating your firmware and see if it would have any effect?

I use Kobo Glo, with The Kobo Start Menu and Koreader installed. The firmware of nickel is the latest (3.12.1), the Koreader is also latest one, as of February 9. Sorry if I could not explain correctly, but everything works fine. If I slide (short slide) power button when Koreader is opened, it goes to the sleeping mode (cover of book appears). When I used nickel, I always used long slide power button to shut down the reader (I think it saves energy). Now I am using Koreader and to power off the reader I have to exit koreader and then shut it down from menu. Then when I want to continue reading, I should open Koreader, choose the book and turn on frontlight (it is not so convenient) So the thing I'm asking is, if it is possible to add "power off function" to the Koreader's menu (or to set "long slide power button" to shut down, the same as in nickel)? Thank you very much.
