Sure, but there is nothing preventing them from switching to Android on an eink based device, much as later Sony ereaders. Personally, I would hate such a switch.

It would be nice to have a faster processor coupled with faster internal non-volatile memory. Kobo's ereaders are quite slow in some respects (e.g. processing content) and can be quite slow in other respects (e.g. loading certain ebooks).

Now that Sony is out of the ereader market, maybe Kobo was able to negotiate with Overdrive for integrated library lending. That would be an incredibly useful feature to some of us.

OverDrive integration is one of the chief wins for Kindle... in the U.S. It would be really cool for Kobo to be able to do the same. Perhaps it would also work outside the U.S.

But since the speculation is based in part on the contents of the current firmware, which I assume wouldn't run on Android without significant modification, that doesn't seem likely.

And it sounds like it's not a device announcement from the newer rumours running around.

If a new device is unveiled I doubt I would buy it. The H2O serves me well and I'm tired of upgrading every single year. The cost of a reader and case should give me at least two years of use.

Of course my thought is subject to change depending on Kobo's announcement. Ha.

With the cost of the H2O, I would hope more than 2 years!

Even if it is a completely new and completely amazing feature, you may as well wait. Software features seem to trickle back to older hardware. If it is a hardware feature, it will probably find its way into next year's hardware (which would offer you more options as to the format).

Anyhow, only tomorrow will tell. I'd guess that hardware is coming sooner rather than later because of the firmware leak, simply because companies don't like to leak details of impending releases too soon.

She is firmly ensconced in soap operas and has made her life into one.

I suspect she has hirelings to read books for her. Were she hawking wines instead of books she could do that more honestly.

I hope they will announce a new model or two soon. Most of the reader models advertised on their website are sold out. They might tempt me to buy a Mini, if they HAD any for sale!
