I joined Prime for diaper subscription shipping years ago. My youngest is in kindergarten now .

We are using Amazon slightly less for some things (subscribe and save selection is shrinking) and more for others - lots of kid birthday presents - Amazon has a great educational toy selection.

The free video is a great perk. We killed our FiOS sub last Aug and haven't missed it. I've debated adding Hulu or Netflix, but haven't bothered.

So the $30 increase this year didn't phase me. We're easily getting $30 more value just from the Doctor Who and PBS programming.

Doctor Who and other BBC shows are vanishing from Prime in Amazon's fight for exclusivity

Quote:
Amazon's streaming war with Netflix is about to claim a new victim: Doctor Who. The Verge has learned that the program, along with the majority of BBC programming, will be vanishing from Prime Instant Video starting February 15th. According to sources familiar with the matter, the issue is exclusivity. Amazon's licensing deal with the BBC allows other subscription services like Netflix to carry the same shows at the same time. That doesn't align with Amazon's current strategic goals, so we've learned the company is choosing not to renew the agreement.

Strange. Mine never got to the USPS, always came with UPS by 8pm the 2nd day - usually shows up before noon.

Well that stinks. I've got DVDs of the new stuff, but have been enjoying Classic Who.

Netflix still has Doctor Who. They just renewed their contract with the BBC.

I don't automatically buy from Amazon either. It just turns out that their prices are usually better -- when getting free shipping. I do use their Prime Video (very little, so far) and their Prime Music (quite a lot). I also was able to get two free books this month -- both of which I actually wanted. I read one of them (not bad at all) but haven't got to the other one yet. So I feel I get my money's worth with Prime.

I must be lucky. My shipping via the Post Office has been very good. Got my first Sunday package delivery last week. My biggest problem is when the UPS handles shipping from start to finish. They always seem to find some way to delay it by a day.

Didn't know Amazon was trying to pull of this kind of garbage. Thanks for the link. I like Netflix. We've been with them for a few years now.

I like my Prime subscription for the free shipping, and the ebook credits when I choose no-rush shipping. (I currently have over £10 waiting to be spent.)

The combination of free shipping and the credits means that the Prime subscription easily pays for itself.

I'm listening to Prime music right now, Prime Stations to be exact. They have a very good selection of Classic Rock. Also not a bad selection of Contemporary Christian. Been using them in place of Pandora as Pandora ads seem to be getting more frequent lately.
I just got a free ebook last not via Prime. I use their video constantly. I like the Stargates, they have Vikings, Falling Skies, Justified, and number of other decent shows. But they need more and better movies.
I like Amazon for big purchases, and especially electronics as I know that if it doesn't work there is no issue returning an item.
Re: Doctor Who--Amazon did the right thing there. Netflix has Doctor Who, and Amazon needs to get exclusive content. I don't want them buying all the same stuff as Netflix. As a cord-cutter I have Amazon, Hulu+, and Netflix. If they were all the same I'd probably just get Netflix and forget the other two.

I no longer enjoy having items delivered to my home. I don't have a front porch so all packages are exposed to the elements. My last two orders of expensive herbal tea was ruined by rain. A few other deliveries were damaged. Plus, I'm required to break down all the cardboard boxes, tie them with string and bring them to the recycling yard. No Amazon Prime for me.

I'm the opposite here. They should all have the same content, so I only have to pay one subscription fee, rather than three or four.

Shucks - no Top Gear either, that means. I am already struggling a bit to find relevant content on there and BBC disappearing means one less big reason for me to continue with Prime. Shame.
