Did try the cache thing and the factory reset thing on both btw but no dice, I think lollipop is just a horrible rushed buggy update and I find it pretty ugly as well.

This sounds bad. I have the update on my N7 2013 and no problems.

I know how it feels though because the latest Kindle Fire update ruined my Kindle Fire 7 2013 it acts just like that.

For anyone interested in a custom rom for your Nexus 7 (2013), I'll put in a good word for CleanROM 5.1 on the xda developers site. It is based on Lollipop (5.02). You can choose which Google apps you want during the installation process. Runs very well. Scott is a great dev. Also recommend the Elemental X kernel with it.

If rooting is unfamiliar to you, or feels daunting, check out WugFresh's Nexus Root Toolkit (which most any Nexus can use). You can root, install a custom recovery, or go back to stock pretty easily. This is also on xda.

Thanks, but I have the LTE version. I only see this rom for flo.

I can't recommend any, as I don't know about them. One good rule of thumb is to see which ones get a lot of posts and downloads!

Yeah I know where to find them, but deb doesn't get anywhere near as much activity as flo. There's not much in the way of Lollipop roms yet since the update just came out recently. My hubby has the same tablet as me and he's willing to be a guinea pig, but I'll just stick to Kitkat for a while. I'll make a change to my build.prop to make sure I don't accidentally update. I think it won't update if that file has been modified.

If your hubby is willing to be the guinea pig, that's great. But, honestly, most users don't need to upgrade to Lollipop. KitKat will work just fine. Let Google tweak Lollipop some more and see if you like the next version. If you can do everything you want on your Nexus with KitKat, and if you prefer the look of KitKat, no need to move on.

(I like KitKats better than lollipops anyway, but that's just my taste in sweets!)

Its being rumored that because of all the bugs. 5.1 is coming in feb-march.

I like Kitkats better than lollipops too, even more so now. The white background is a huge problem for me - it makes my vision go double. The font color in settings makes it even more difficult. There are problems with menus in some apps now - the background is white, but so is the text.

I just checked battery use from being let sit unused for the last eight hours and it has been awake the entire time and used 40% of the battery.

Update - never mind I finally found a site with directions - will try when I get up enough nerve!

Could I get the link to the site with directions? My husband has the 2012 one and he had the same problem of slowdown once he updated to Lollipop.

I suggest before any action is done, do your homework. For some the software can be a bit confusing and making mistakes easy.

Several YouTube with good instructions on the how's need to be studied before any action on your part is done.

Nothing is very hard, but a basic understanding of what you are doing is a must!

The words "Due diligence" on your part is a must to be successful.

I know how it feels though because the latest Kindle Fire update ruined my Kindle Fire 7 2013 it acts just like that.
