Update on Harlequin Rewards

After emailing customer service I got this reply... and my double bonus points.

"This title is an Avon title and they are new to our website. Our database does not include all of these titles yet."

So I will keep submitting Avon titles.

Here's an oldie, originally published in 1991. I'm not sure I've read this one, but I loved her Lions and Lace. Meagan McKinneys Til Dawn Tames The Night is $1.99 at Amazon

Quote:
A safe, respectable orphanage was the only home Aurora Dayne had ever known. Teaching there would mean security. But when the mysterious letter arrived, offering her a position as lady's companion, Aurora seized the chance, embarking for Jamaica with her sole legacy--a little golden lizard bearing a strange rhyme. And so began the daring odyssey that would throw her into the clutches of a ruthless privateer.

Feared by men, desired by women, Vashon's eyes gleamed green as he vowed to possess the innocent beauty who held the key to his quest. Could anything ever equal his obsession to retrieve the legendary emerald--the Star of Aran? Held captive on a secret Caribbean isle--at Dragonard, his solitary lair--Aurora would struggle against her own passions, determined to tame the very dragon who had awakened her fire.

Gah, I really would appreciate some help please with Calibre. I have a book that will not convert properly. It double spaces between paragraphs only [not double spacing of lines, just paragraphs] Also it seems the margins are really large which is resulting in maybe 2-3 small paragraphs per page.

My default settings for conversion include;
Look and Feel>Remove spacing between paragraphs
and Filter Style Information>Fonts, Margins both selected

I also tried converting it with changing the settings in Structure Detection from //*[((name()='h1' or name()='h2') and re:test(., 'chapter|prologue|epilogue|book|section|part\s+', 'i')) or @class = 'chapter'] to //h:h4.

That didn't help either.
I swear I'm just about done buying from Kobo at all.

Please remember I'm very tech challenged but if you have an easy fix to this I'd appreciate it.

Is it a pdf????

I have found - generally - converting a pdf to epub with calibre, using heuristic processing' SOMETIMES works.

Or pdf to mobi then to epub SOMETIMES works. It seems to depend upon the age(?) of the pdf as to how easily it converts.

And occasionally it won't do anything.

So I have to decide how likely I am to re-read. Sometimes I can ignore weird spaces. Or if I am fairly likely to re-read, then I use modify epub, sigh, and edit line or paragraph as needed.

for replying. No, it's not a PDF, it's epub [from Kobo]. I did try heuristic processing, that didn't work either. I don't know how to use modify epub other than to resize images.

I know the file is not unreadable, but it's just annoying to have to change the page every 5 seconds.

Edit epub does have a find and replace all.

But apparently my computer here at work has a different version (modify epub) than my home computer. So I cannot walk you through it.

This is Blossom's specialty.

Problem is, it looks like a faulty stylesheet. I wouldn't know how to explain it, but I can try to fix it (more or less) if you send it to me.

I would first look at the style sheet and see if the margins can be changed in there. It's eiither a style sheet issue or a tag causing the problems but without seeing the book I can't say for sure.

You can try checking the remove margins options in Calibre it's also under look n feel.

You're so kind to offer, I truly appreciate it. I kept muddling with it and finally got it to be somewhat closer to double spaced paragraphs [looking at the original again it was actually triple spaced it looked like]. Anyways, I did an epub split in it and applied every tool and setting I could try in Calibre and it's better now, enough that I don't want to trouble you. But thank you again for your very kind help.

I don't know how to read a style sheet per se, and I already had margins removed, but thanks for trying.

The Inn at Eagle Point (A Chesapeake Shores Novel Book 1) by Sherryl Woods has dropped to $0.99 at Amazon US
Quote:
It's been years since Abby O'Brien Winters set foot in Chesapeake Shores. The Maryland town her father built has too many sad memories and Abby too few spare moments, thanks to her demanding Wall Street career, the crumbling of her marriage and energetic twin daughters. Then one panicked phone call from her youngest sister brings her racing back home to protect Jess's dream of renovating the charming Inn at Eagle Point.

But saving the inn from foreclosure means dealing not only with her own fractured family, but also with Trace Riley, the man Abby left ten years ago. Trace can be a roadblock to her plans…or proof that second chances happen in the most unexpected ways.

Spoiler:
When danger lurks behind a familiar face…

Successful architect Rachel Granger loves her job and her life, but when a terrorist on the FBI’s most wanted list targets her, there’s only one man she can trust. She hasn’t seen Jake in years but her former college friend told her he’d always be there for her and she definitely needs him now. Even though her feelings for him go far deeper than friendship and just being around him risks her heart, she would do anything to keep those she loves safe from a madman bent on unleashing hell.

Only one man from her past can help

FBI Special Agent Jake Evers made the biggest mistake of his life when he let Rachel slip through his fingers over two years ago. It doesn’t matter that he hasn’t seen her since then—if she needs him, he’ll be there. When he learns that she’s the target of a domestic terror cell, he’ll do everything in his power to keep her safe. He’s never gotten over her and won’t risk losing her again now that she’s reappeared in his life. But the threat is more widespread than they realized and now it’s a race against time to keep her and scores of innocent civilians alive.

The Banishment by M.C. Beaton (St. Martin's 1995)

Spoiler:
Isabella Beverley is blessed with unparalleled beauty but, unfortunately, has been raised in the most snobbish and haughtiest of families. And when her father gambles away their fortune--including Mannerling, the exquisite family mansion--Isabella discovers there is very little sympathy for her plight. As the eldest, Isabella is chosen to court Mr. Judd, the roguish bachelor who won Mannerling. Surely no sacrifice is too great to regain Mannerling? But tempting her away from Mr. Judd is Lord Fitzpatrick, an Irish rake who fears Isabella can never love a man as she does her home--but is nonetheless determined to convince her to choose man over manse!

FWIW M.C Beaton used to write as Marion Chesney. I used to read her Regency romances under that name.

I read a lot of them too, the library in the small town where I grew up had a lot of her books and not many other Regency romances. The Banishment is a comfort read for me though the books in that series get worse as they go along.
