No, those diagonals at the border seem to be normal... checking my pictures (of my working H2O when I disassembled it), it's the same. Not sure what it is but that's not the problem...

For what it's worth I also tried restarting with the micro SD card removed and still no change in the display.

There is nothing in this word you can do to change how that display works other then breaking it more. It's toast. You can stop trying to fix it as its not fixable.

Yup, although I saw no harm in trying.

Now I'm just waiting for Chapters Indigo to have the H2O Sleep Cover in stock so I can order the reader and cover together.

I bought the reader and sleep cover together, and the cover I received is quite good quality. However, there are many sleep covers for the H2O available on the net if you don't want to wait for Chapters.

Personally I never use an e-reader without a cover. I believe that when your ereader suffers the inevitable fall the cover often makes the difference between it being damaged and escaping unscathed. But please don't think a cover makes it invulnerable. It does not. Just improves the odds.

I know there are other covers for the H2O but the one by Kobo seems to be the nicest (to me at least)

Heard back from Kobo today. I'm glad I didn't expect much from them

I saw a new H2O with case for sale in the flea market of this site. Woulda jumped on that one if hadn't already placed an order.

Thanks for the heads up, but I kind of have my heart set on the original Kobo sleep cover. The price is tempting though

Sorry to hear about your reader. That's awful. I've dropped my readers occasionally in the past and never had any problems with them. Just plain bad luck (but yes a cover probably would have helped at least a little).

Thanks, Canuck. I've had 4 other e-readers in a span of 5 years and not one has broken on me. Then again, this is the first I've used without a cover. You may be right about it being bad luck, but I'm going to be extra careful with my next H2O

I hope you're able to get a new one soon. I have the sleep cover on mine and I really love it. I put a decal on the cover to pretty it up. It's a super nice case.
