Unintentional Factory Restart :(

(Sorry if there are already threads on this - I found a couple before joining the forums but they were pretty old).

Been using my Touch a lot since getting it this past Christmas - free books and paid books from the Kobo site, as well as a few library books with help of Adobe Digital Editions. (And one web article via an online epub converter).

Tonight I turned on my Touch & got the "Error" or "Factory Restart" (or however it reads) dreaded message. I was prompted to register my Touch just like I had when I first got it, which I did wirelessly. (Had to update and restart 3 times). Finally I was prompted to sync up with my Kobo account which went smoothly, so at least books I bought from Kobo have not been lost.
Library books are a different story because when I sent them back to my Touch from Adobe Digital and tried to open them, their covers were blacked out and I got the "Oops you are not authorized to read this content" message From what I've read on the net, I have to wait until the library book expires (2 weeks or something) and then re-download

This sucks because not only have I lost all my annotations from the library books, now have to wait weeks to even read them again on my Touch!

I know unintentional factory restarts have been a problem since this device was released - any good news or tips on that front lately? It's a major drag & if I hadn't been at home where I keep various passwords I wouldn't have been able to get my Touch going again and synced with Kobo. #greatcauseforconcern

Try re-authorizing your Kobo with your Adobe ID.

If I drag and drop a library book onto my kobo without using Adobe editions I get that message. But re-authorizing your kobo with your Adobe ID should do the trick.

I am not sure whether I understand what you mean by "unintentional." If I am not mistaken you could have dismissed the offer to perform the factory reset, but you choose to agree. So it was not unintentional from your side. If however you are asking for the reason why the device offered you this option, I see two possibilities: Your device was powered on several times in a row without that the original GUI was successfully started, or your file system was corrupted.

Are you getting Error: E_LIC_ALREADY_FULFILLED_BY_ANOTHER_USER? I hate that...makes me want to pirate the book rather than getting it from the library.

Not a help for this time out but once you have re-authorized your Touch, copy the .adobe-digital-editions directory to your computer. It contains two files, the device.xml file and the activation.xml file. By copying the activation.xml file back to your Touch after a factory reset, you will be saved the trouble of re-authorizing and the real fun of dealing with Adobe when you re-authorize too many times and need to beg for more authorizations.

Thanks for the replies - no light yet at the end of the tunnel I de-auth'd Adobe from my Touch then re-auth'd. Sent the library book back to my Touch but the cover is still blacked out and I still get the "Oops you're out of luck cuz you ain't got the authority!" message. WORSE, same thing when I borrowed a new library book & tried to send that to my Touch via Adobe.

Found a possible fix on the net which seemed to work for a few people which is to specifically use Adobe Digital version 3 (I used 2 originally, which worked and now 2 again, which no longer works). Guess I'll try that next.

Don't remember having an option to decline the reset but I might have clicked OK or something, so if not "unintentional" then definitely unwanted! I don't know how my file system could have gotten corrupted but I suspect that's a less troubling reason for the reset than the GUI reason, given that my touch was opened less than 2 months ago?

Didn't get that error message but don't look forward to the frustration! Many thing make me want to pirate rather than library/buy.
