I know! I'm lucky!

Seriously, what with promotional memberships, coupon codes, and whispersync, I spent only trivial sums on audiobooks until this month. It never occured to me set a limit on audiobook purchases. As I said, I'm a lucky girl.

But the Aubrey/Maturins were a one-off. No slippery slope here. Really.

I picked up a load of freebies last week, close to a hundred all told, but I don't feel guilty about it. Most of them are short stories that I grabbed out of curiosity, and I can finish two or three of those in an evening without breaking a sweat. I'm not even counting them against my GR challenge.

I'm running into the drawback to the otherwise wonderful £1 credits at Amazon for choosing slower shipping when a Prime Member.

Some of my credits will run out in February! Well, only £0.50 of them, actually. But the rest run out in March. Which means I shall have to think about spending £8 at Amazon in March. Luckily they do usually have the lowest prices around, and I can buy some non-couponable books from my wishlist.

But I can see that, despite the success so far, my challenge is still going to be tough this year!

Well, I gave into temptation. I'm hoping to make those the only comics I buy this year.

Only 2 days (counting today) left and I'm under budget.
$19.88 for 9 books (one was a 5 book omnibus). $20/month
I probably could have done better.
Only 5 were wishlist books. ^^; But, that's better than I did in both November and December.
I am currently reading one of the books I bought that was not on my wishlist, it was a sale + coupon and am thus far satisfied with my purchase.

I do fear I might go overbudget this month is someone publicly shares a 75% code though. O_O
I was lucky enough to get a few 45%s and a 55% which I am saving to use in February to not go over budget. I am hoping for a couple of higher codes, but I think I'm okay with these.

Well, I've used my two high value Kobo codes on two books I'll be reading almost immediately. Still well under budget for January, I just hope I'm that way in February!

I purchased my first book of 2015 and it wasn't easy. Kobo issues and finally refunded. Repurchase at B&N. I never worked so hard to buy a book! It was a self pub on my wish list that was on sale for 99 cents.

I end January with my TBR unchanged (750) and having spent only £13.31 on 8 books!

But February is going to upset my TBR, if not my budget.

I just pulled the trigger on two pre-orders I've been sitting on. I wasn't sure whether to count them when I pre-ordered or when the books actually come out, so I waited until the month ticked over so they'd definitely be counted in February either way.

There are three other books I'm interested in either coming out this month or just released at the end of January, but these two in particular are being promoted with a low pre-order price. I'd say what they were, but I don't want to encourage bad behaviour.

Spoiler:

OK, then:
Something Coming Through by Paul McAuley
The Death House by Sarah Pinborough
Both £1.99 from UK ebook stores.

Oh, the irony.

I waited until today to make two purchases at Kobo. Long story short, while they took my money, one of the books isn't downloadable. So I guess I'm in the position where I've bought two books, although I only own one. How to count it?

No books in January!

As for February, once I get my refund (which I suspect is going to take at least one more long frustrating phone call), I've notched one. I suppose I should be grateful to Kobo for its help in keeping me under budget.

As Mr Micawber might had said:
"Monthly budget twenty dollars, monthly expenditure nineteen dollars and eighty-eight cents, result happiness. Monthly budget twenty dollars, monthly expenditure twenty dollars and twelve cents, result misery."

Congratulations on being twelve cents on the happiness side of things!

This seems to be occurring with frequency. Kobo while never Gibraltar solid is experiencing more fracking tremors lately. At least the refunds flow Niagara-like.

I've bought an old favourite from Kobo for £0.98. Much too good to pass up.

Heh. I just bought a book on sale for $1.99. It was on my wish list for a long time and in fact I had just borrowed the pbook from the library. But for two bucks I'd rather both read the ebook and in my own time. No regrets.

If I make it through tomorrow, I'll still be three books under budget.
