Hey - it works.
In the 100th attempt I got it to firmware reset. And it wasn't a fluke - deleted the rcS script entire beforehand so it would not trigger the reset of the rcS itself by accident. When it works, it resets without further asking, so you better be prepared to lose all your data on this thing. What I did (same as everyone else said already, but for some reason it took a whole lot of attempts for me to make it work): 1. Turn off the device (wait a few seconds after it says "Powered off") If your device is in a bricked state (blinking LED), you have to keep the button pressed for a while. It has to stop blinking when you let the button go. 2. Press and hold the power button to turn it on. Screen will flash black-white twice. 3. At the same time as 2), give the screen a massage at the bottom of the screen. (it probably doesn't matter, but when it worked I actually used three fingers, bottom left, middle, right.) If the LED goes blinky instead you failed and have to start over. Great! Wonder why they bothered to implement the reset button firmware reset at all, when they had this failsafe one. Probably because it's harder to use? |

Manual factory reset processes:
Reset #1 - For use on a device that can be powered on 1.Ensure that the device is turned on 2.Straighten a paper clip 3.Open the water proof door at the bottom of the device 4.Very quickly perform 4 basic resets by clicking the internal reset button 4 times 5.A screen will appear asking if you want to perform a factory reset 6.Tap the checkmark icon. You may have to put the device to sleep then back on in order for the screen to respond to touch 7.Complete the device setup after the reset completes Reset #2 - For use on a device that can or cannot be powered on 1.Press and hold the power button for 5 to 6 seconds to turn it off 2.Press and hold the power button 3.With two fingers, simultaneously and repeatedly tap the bottom corners of the touch screen 4.Continue to tap the corners repeatedly until the device begins to reset 5.Complete the device setup after the reset completes |

karamasova: Reset #1 works for all the Kobo ereaders. For #2, I recommend holding the power button down for 20 seconds. If the device has hung and is not responding to anything, this will force the power off.

Great! They just wanted to test how serious you were about it!
Did you by chance try again after your first success, in order to see whether you became better at it? How did you do this? High frequency nervous tapping? ...? |

frostschutz was your deep analysis of code what give hope but I can't forget the help from tshering with his ideas and attempts.
Definitely that's one of the best communities! Sure! |
