Looks like same countries as contest applies to, US, CA, didn't bother trying UK as most published books there are not discountable anyways.

PurpleLady, my email said there was a select list too, but so far it seems to let me apply it to NP books anyways so I didn't even bother looking.

I only used the list after finding that I couldn't use it on books that would allow other coupon codes.

Oh, I hate Kobo.

I attempted to squander my 65% contest coupon on a $20 book. Kobo let me pay for it; download it, not so much. When the URL says "retailer not authorized"? You know it was a bogus purchase.

So, I had to fill out the customer service form before they deigned to give me the phone number to call. The rep was of those who are deaf to anything but the script in front of them. Despite my repeated insistence that the book wasn't available for download, it wasn't until twenty minutes into the call, when I said, "You try to open it," that he came back and said, "Oh, I guess this is a bad book."

His solution? He'd report it and it would get fixed eventually, but it was up to the publisher. Oh, sure. I've been down that road before. I wanted a refund. We'll see. And the coupon is gonzo.

Kobo really isn't worth the time and irritation. I should know this by now.

Yeah I don't bother with them at all anymore. Switched to amazon and library entirely.

Have you tried Google Play? I'm hearing some readers are having good luck (better luck?) with them.

Google play has pretty much the same prices as amazon. And no coupons.
So why would I bother when I have a kindle? I just don't have an incentive. Plus google books doesn't let me travel, and that's a big minus seeing I'm in a small European country nobody gives two cents about.
With amazon at least I can buy giftcards and get my kindle books like any Yankee would.

Of course we all care about that country! What was it again?

Sorry, I assumed epub just because of the kobo connection. It is a pain in neck to shop around to find better deals and often everything is exactly the same. Someone on one of these threads also advised checking booksamillion. But a lot of the main stores offer the same discounted books everywhere so I don't know that it would help!

Thank you and I've got an email telling me I'll be refunded, so I did them something of an injustice. Still, it was a frustrating and infuriating half hour on the phone. It shouldn't be so hard, but I'm happy it's resolved.

@issybird, I seem to recall others posting that when they've used a code and had to have a purchase refunded that they were also successful in getting the code value back. But you'd need to ask for it, and maybe provide the receipt which shows the code discounted.

Worth pursuing with a 65% code at stake.

Yep, I'm borrowing paper library books, and not waiting for prices to drop on books, or for buying in India with a discount code.

I'm currently reading (from the library) Louise Penny's It's a Long Way Home and have got the following books on hold - some of which are still to be released (ie in the pre-order stage):
Jacqueline Winspear - A Dangerous Place
Donna Leon - Falling in Love
Marsh Mehran - The Margaret Thatcher School of Beauty
Martin Walker (when placing a hold becomes available)
several Aus authors

As none of the books I want are able to be discounted in the UK CA or US, and the prices in India have gone up and only low codes work there and the other Kobo International sites, why wouldn't I use the library option?

Does your library have ebook options? Mine started out with a pretty small e-library, but it's gotten better. I can download all but a very few to my Kindle. There are still some publishers who will only provide epub for libraries, but not many. I prefer the ebook option due to extreme laziness on my part (driving there and then remembering to return the books!)

Bear Mountain Books yep, my library does have ebooks and I do borrow those as well. But a bulk of the books I want are only available as paper books - which is a format I still like to read.

My library is less than 5 minutes drive, and a wonderful walk from my home!!

Worth remembering also that lots of public libraries, if not most of them, will honour book-purchase requests.
