@Bartveld, the Contest codes don't work in Aus - just the UK CA and US.

And yep, Kobo seems to have gotten dearer.

Isn't that partly due to the tumble of the Aussie dollar, Lynx-lynx?

Also, now that kobobooks.com does the currency conversion automatically built into the prices displayd -- I wish the site would give you the option of not doing that, but I suspect I know why it doesn't -- I assume there's a loading built into the price conversion as well (as Amazon does with its currency conversion), and that's why it doesn't let you see the original prices.

In my price-comparison spreadsheet I also list prices from A&R, which are almost always identical to kobobooks.com.

Yes, you do get an actual ePub eBook that you can sideload. You go to My Books and when you see the cover, hover over the cover and in the upper right corner of the cover you'll see three white squares in a line. Click on the squares and you'll get the option to Download EPUB. That's the way to download ePub from Google Play so you get the ePub eBook to sideload.

Nah, because as my examples earlier in this thread reveal, Amazon Aus is cheaper by dollars than Kobo.

Fun and Fantastical Slippers to Knit, ebook:

Amazon Kindle edition: $9.99
Google Books: $13.80
Kobo: $18.39
All prices USD.

List price is $23.00, so all these are discounted, but Kobo least of all.

I think the list price is for the paper book and not the ebook version. It seems ebook sellers want to try and get us to believe that one can compare the hard cover book with the ebook for price comparison. Nope.

Ahh. When you said Kobo seems to have gotten dearer, I thought you meant than it used to be, as distinct from than Amazon.

(I think it's always been dearer than Amazon ...)

No, that's the ebook list price. The paper list price is $24.95

True. If your business model was selling overpriced Hard Cover editions first until you had milked that market, then overpriced paperbacks, why would you want to sell ebooks cheaper? For these dinosaurs the main and preferred product is the hard cover, then the paperback. EBooks are priced with an eye to trying to avoid damaging the Hard Back and even Paperback markets.

Kobo books are consistently more expensive than Amazon books here in India. I'm talking way more expensive. A book that's ₹273 on Amazon is ₹1046 on Kobo, which is fairly typical of the price differences across the board. I am yet to come across a book that's cheaper on Kobo than on Amazon.

I would love to patronise your store, Kobo, but there is no way I am willing to pay that high a price for it. My H2O still doesn't have a single Kobo purchased book on it. It's all free or Amazon purchased books run through Calibre.

Thanks for the tip. As long as you don't buy a book you don't get that option so it's a little hard to fugure out how they work.
