Hmm. "Bought" Some of the Best from Tor.com 2014 yesterday, the free, DRM-free collection of stories from the website, and I just get an error when I try to download it. This is the UK site.
It's a good thing I already have the kindle version. I just fancied an epub. |

SCRIBD is a subscription service. They often run trials for 1 to 3 months. It can be useful if you have two or three books you want to read, but are too expensive right now. You can use the trial, read the books and then buy them later. In case you wondered, the author and publisher do get paid even if you use the trial subscription. There's a thread around here where I posted a code for a 3 month trial for NEW members only. If anyone wants that code I can find the post. I do not know if it is still working, but it was a few days ago. You need a tablet for best performance. SCRIBD doesn't work on e-ink Kindles. |

I have not had any problems traveling to Canada or the UK in order to add free books to my library, but I don't think I've tried to buy anything lately.

Granted, I only ever travel to Canada and the UK - that may be part of it, I don't know. For price matching, I've never sent them anything. I just noticed that usually within a 24 hour period Google will drop the price of books to match amazon. |

Its generally a waste of time looking to buy from New Zealand. We pay far more for books here, both ebooks and treebooks, than most other countries, something that has always annoyed me greatly.
Treebooks, I can just about accept paying more for, given the extra cost of getting books all the way to us (although that has never quite covered locally published books) but I have never yet heard a satisfactory explanation as to why we pay up to twice as much, and even more sometimes, for ebooks. You usually need a 50% or higher code to bring the cost of an ebook in NZ down to similar to a full priced copy from the US. If the book is even coupon eligible. Thank God for traveling, I say! |

I checked out Google Play for a book on my buy list: My Promised Land: The Triumph and Tragedy of Israel Ari Shavit Google Play USD$16.99 It looks like Google Play pricing is close or less to what Kobo or Amazon is offering. Maybe worth using Google Play. |

It sounds like you are in US. If I am in US, I will buy from booksamillion.com because I noticed their eBooks are discounted or are cheaper than those from Amazon.com. |

For treebooks as you call them you can use bookdepository.com Free worldwide delivery and only slightly higher prices than Amazon. In fact they are amazon owned but UK based. I buy from them all the time. I get my books in about 5-7 workdays. It might take a bit longer since you're in NZ and I'm in Europe, but I still got my treebooks in reasonable time even when I was in Japan. They sell mainly UK editions (which I prefer anyway, because covers), but they have some US ones too. |
