Can't change font size after embedding fonts (newbie alert)

Hello everyone!

As the title of the thread suggests, I'm a newbie to all this editing book stuff, so please be patient with me!

Basically, I wanted to change the fonts of the chapter headings in an ebook, so I switched to the font of my choice and had to click on the "Embed all fonts" button because if not, when I convert the ebook (which is in EPUB format) to PDF, the font doesn't show up. The font shows perfectly, but the font size of the chapter headers, when viewed in the PDF file, is smaller compared to the font size viewed from calibre's file preview screen. No matter how many times I play around with the font-size in the stylesheet, it does nothing to the font size when I convert it PDF.

I don't know if this makes a difference, but I use another website to convert my ebooks to PDF format, rather than using the converter in calibre.

What should I do to get the font size to display correctly when I convert to PDF?

Thanks in advance!

I never convert to PDF myself, but you could try one of the following settings on the Convert - Look&Feel page when you convert:
  • If it isn't already, try CHECKing the first item - 'Disable font size rescaling'.
  • Alternatively, if you prefer to have that box UNCHECKED have a look at the values in the 3rd item on the same page - 'Font size key'. You need to make sure the last value is big enough to accommodate the font-size setting for your headings in the source epub.

Thanks for the reply! But I'm still having troubles with the font size. If I use the converter from calibre, the font sizes in the PDF will be very large, so I might just stick with using the website I use to convert. I'm trying to play around with the fonts.css but I'm still not getting any progress. Nonetheless, thank you again for helping out!

@lina.w - I've also never needed to convert epub to pdf.

But if I did and I couldn't get a satisfactory result out of direct conversion then I would probably consider the option of getting the text into a word processor like Word or Writer via a conversion to HTMLZ. There are lots of options available for converting wp formats to PDF. The save (export ?) as PDF in Writer is pretty good, I've used it make PDF's that were used in offset printing.
