Also tried both some apk extractors & the ES File Explorer which responded as "failed" while it couldn't be selected in the apk extractors.

Just found out. My Nexus 7 is running lollipop 5.02. The other tablets are running kitkat 4.4.x. Lollipop is using the "ART" runtime libraries & not the DAV???.

Surprising as I would have expected the other way around! Anyway, able to get it over to the Fire HDX to update.https://www2.mobileread.com/i/smilies/smile.gif

I now use the Play version on my Kindle Fires as I prefer the most updated version before I couldn't it would have license issues but the developer fixed that problem and I now can use it without problems. Same with Mantano.

ART is the new runtime and Dalvik is the old runtime - why wouldn't you expect Lollipop to use the new?

Sorry. I tried to mean that I expected being able to backup the Moon+ Reader under KitKat 4.4.x but not necessarily under Lollipop. The reverse in my case is surprising; even the rooted tablets using CM11 couldn't do a backup!

You should be able to backup using Titanium Backup. That is the most important root tool there is for me.
