For me, it depends on the type of PDF. If it's single-page content, it's just fine on the Nexus 7 (2nd gen), which does have a very nice size for reading. Multi-column, or graphics rich, PDFs are a pain, though, since there's not enough screen estate.
I just picked up an iPad Air 2 (I had used an iPad 2 previously) and the display size, format, and processing speed are superb for PDFs of any kind. I imagine the Nexus 9 would be a solid choice here, too. I still use the 7" tablet for regular epub books. |

It takes four screens per page though, but the same is true with reflowed mobi/epub pages or using 10" tablet in landscape. Last edited by markom; 01-26-2015 at 01:35 PM. |

OP here, just following up. I ended up picking up a used Asus Memo Pad HD 7. I has a little more glare than I'd like, but it is a tablet, not e-ink . . .
While I could certainly fit more on a page with my old 10" Galaxy Tab, I do appreciate the light weight of the 7" tablet, which makes holding with one hand while reading a possibility, especially when laying on a couch or in bed (not really practical for a 10" tablet). Overall, I got the 7" tablet to be more portable while not sacrificing too much on the pdf readability front, and after getting through ~100 pages of a tech 'Dummies' book, I'm pleased thus far.
