Since the OP only has one kindle would syncing be a big concern at the moment?
Pretty sure I can't sync on my Sonys or My Kobo Aura HD and have actually never felt the urge to. But I must ask if anyone is using this as an argument against mobi or kf8 then why don't they own only kindles? Helen |

Thanks to everyone who replied to the subject at hand. I will take a look at the suggestions, koreader and apprentice alf. How can you install ko when the kpw does not accept apps? I had thought I could just install the kobo reader and be done. I read somewhere that you can sideload apps but that doesn't seem like it would work when the pw doesn't accept apps. Thanks.

Installing KOReader requires jailbreaking the Kindle. If your Kindle updated to firmware 5.6.1, then jailbreaking isn't an option. Using Calibre with Apprentice Alf and converting books you send to the Kindle to azw3 is the easiest option.

It does Whispersync between devices. I can confirm that. As long as you email the mobi format to your Amazon Cloud. You can't email an AZW only a mobi. I use Send to Kindle, which is Amazon software that I downloaded to my pc.

Before you start moaning about mobi again I have thousands of mobi files, some are in Amazon's cloud, and on my kindle, and others have been converted to epub and are on my Kobo H20. I have never had an issue with a single book. Last edited by Josieb1; 01-23-2015 at 01:01 PM. |

When talking about jailbreaking. What is the "root" folder? I really don't understand what people are referring to.
Also the jailbreaking file is updated for the 5.6.1. Is it still not an option? Last edited by kiaville; 01-23-2015 at 02:46 PM. |

The root folder is always the topmost folder on any device. That is, the file should not be placed in any actual folders on the device. Just onto the device drive itself.

I like reading different books on each device, and in almost 5 years of ereading have only switched devices twice to read the same book, but I am probably unusual in that. I have mysteries on one, fantasy on another, general and literary and non fiction on another etc. Sometimes I find a book doesn't suit my mood or is to intense for bedtime reading so I simply pick up another reader. No syncing required. It is like having a stack of books on my nightstand except the stack is smaller and neater, and I don't need bookmarks ![]() I don't think the OP cares overmuch about syncing right now and that the main objective at present is to read his current epub files on the kindle. Conversion to any format is probably the best option, although it might take a few hours for the first book or so. After that it will usually only take seconds. Well worth the effort if there are a lot of books involved. if there are few books then it might be better to just start acquiring kindle books if that is a convenient option where the OP lives. I can confirm converting and using the "send to kindle" app works with whispersync, perfectly.

I'm too lazy to look it up right now. But I seem to recall that though it was updated for 5.6.1 it only works for Kindles that were jailbroken previously. You can of course check this on the thread.

If you did use the download manager you'll notice your browser's startup page has been hijacked. You'll need to run a reputable antispyware/antivirus software to get rid of it as it does a little bit more in the background than just hijacking the startup page. |

Whispersync is the reason I do not use .AZW3 as my Kindle format. You cannot Whispersync it. .MOBI and .AZW both work well. |
