Just did your little test. Result: It can't be quoted in a reply, ergo a signature. Perhaps you should start a campaign for the reduction of allowed signature size if it bothers you so much...

And if somebody has nothing to say about books and ereaders, do you really want to buy an ereader from that person?

I don't think that people with less than 50 posts and 6 months membership are barred from putting items up for sale - they just get the warning to others message in their thread.

P.S. Feel free to ignore the good Dr. -- but that won't get rid of his signature. Dr. Drib -- Just wanted to put it out there, I happen to love your signature, and I am always interested to see its new incarnations.

This is because: I don't tend to post opinions on various subjects (even if I have a strong opinion about something, no one else cares). If I have a technical about something ebook related, I almost always find the answer searching instead of posting a question here. So I only tend to post here if someone asks a question I can contribute to, that hasn't already been answered - which is pretty rare.

If Dr. Drib's sig was spam why would the OP want to promote it by drawing attention to it? |

and no, nothing fishy. maybe they have a reader because they spend more time READING than POSTING CRAP ONLINE. posting stuff on a forum is (thankfully) not a prerequisite for reading. just like proper spelling in many cases doesn't appear to be a prerequisite for writing posts (especially within a forum that's all about books and writing). it's always "fun" to see some people's atrocious spelling around here.

That is past the threshold. Also, note I am merely theorizing possibilities. It becomes something to consider before being hasty. Which is of course the whole point of the supposed spam -- to remind people to be cautious when money is changing hands over the internet. Where nothing is a sure thing, although someone who is clearly a regular here would be less likely ( ) to be scamming. After all, with coming on 9000 posts, I for example am hardly likely to endanger that hard work by getting myself banned for scamming.

Note: I spend a ton of time reading (it boggles the minds of many non-readers, that is for sure). I also accumulated a prettty good post count here. It is possible to do both. Less than 50 posts should raise eyebrows. Not to automatically assume people are scammers, merely that there is no particular reason to assume against the default. default == "mysterious people on the internet, who could and do range from scammers to truly good people -- but with no identifying proof other than their say-so" You took the words out of my mouth...

IMHO MR is about participation (which can include passive). Selling ones surplus equipment is a bonus. Joining just to sell (immediately: very low time ) makes one wonder about their 'joining' motive. A reminder warning from the Mods is not out of line. Not everyone checks the posters user stats |
