I just picked up Alienated by Melissa Landers on sale for 99 cents! It's normally $10. Sales goes off the 22nd. This is a YA Alien\Human romance. She writes romances as Macy Beckett for Sourcebooks. This has been on my wishlist for a long time. The Sequel comes out in February.

I am surprised to hear that. I didn't think 4GB ram would be enough. On my desktop, that was just too slow to run Calibre (and Sigil) and Chrome browser, a file manager, and I had to upgrade to 8GB. I have looked at those basic laptops quite often, but figured they would be too slow!

Would you mind sharing what brand you got?

Sure, but it is a Greek store brand from Plaisio store called "Turbo X". It was a low priced sale just around this time of the year, last year. 200 euros is a good price around here. I run Chrome, Calibre (with libraries of 5-6 thousand books), plus all the typical programs. I am not employed (kind of a forced early-retirement :-) - so I don't run power-house type graphics, word processing or anything. I use the free Photoscape app for image manipulation and Open Office. Some video watching and audio file manipulation. The laptop is an Intel Celeron 1037U 1.8GHz processor (64 bit, x-64 based), with 4 GB RAM.

My husband found windows 8.0 buggy, but the 8.1 release is quite nice, stable, and easy-to-use on his tablet. He is a univ. professor in math and engineering so uses intensive equation processing and writing programs and he is happy with his 4GB RAM.

I haven't had any bugs in one year of use, perhaps I am fortunate. Mine is not the best laptop available by any means, but it is perfect for my ebook library needs. I also have the time to be patient if something takes awhile!

Of course, my daughter has a Macbook with 12 GB RAM ;-)

I got it this weekend and I am not loving some of the changes! Really irritated that they undid my customized settings and over-rode my selected option to not allow some things to auto-update. These weren't system requirement things, so they should have been left alone! Grr.

In regards to romance... Haven't read anything, haven't bought anything. Still in my big slump.

Yep that's where I am too well I did buy something but I haven't read anything since I decided to stop reading that HQ and save it for next Christmas. I'm just in a great big slump and I just downgraded my Audible membership to Gold after being a Platinum member for over 3 years. Still have Scribd, renewed Overdrive and have all these awesome devices and yet here I am S-T-U-C-K, Stuck.
