![]() Here are ravenne´s three holy rules for happy Christmas shopping: 1. Don´t EVER shop on a Saturday. If you cannot avoid weekends start with your Christmas shopping in January when stores are empty. 2. Don´t EVER shop with your wife (for women: with your husband). Men and women can´t be friends when it comes to shopping. 3. And last not least: Shop online. All presents are just one klick away and you´ll avoid blisters on your feet and a marriage crisis. |

I'm just happy that Christmas shopping is not something I ever have to deal with. (And that's why I avoid being around my boyfriend near the holidays ... he always wants to go Christmas shopping -- and drags me into jewelry stores -- arrrrrgh!! When all I really want are power tools.) I just get him something online (because his family does celebrate the holiday) after he tells me exactly what it is he wants (I do not like guessing games).
Today, I spent the entire day repairing a neighbor's laptop. It was fairly easy (as it turned out IE had gorked the machine by creating ... ready for this?? .... a 67 Gigabyte TMP file while trying to install an update on her machine), but I did uninstall IE from the machine and installed Firefox. ![]() It wasn't the repair that took the time, it was all the questions she had afterword. Lots of things that she wasn't able to get working properly because the people who set it all up for her never really showed her how. ![]() |

The Loved One and myself don't buy each other Christmas presents (only birthday), though occasionally we'll buy something "for the house". The extended family usually does "Secret Santa", which would give us the job of buying a present each for our assigned individuals in the family, but I suspect that may fall by the wayside this year too.
This Christmas (unlike last, when 14 family members stayed at my place for a fortnight or so) it would appear that everyone's staying home, and we'll be spending it with just the two of us (and a friend flying up from Sydney for a few days from Christmas evening). I'm kind of pleased with that. Which reminds me, I've got to put our Christmas tree up... Cheers, Marc |

I'm digesting a nice homemade chorizo, chicken, prawn and scallop jambalaya..mmm.mmmm, with a baby spinach and balsamic vinaigrette salad. No room for chocolate.

So .... I looked at the properties of her hard drive. Yep, it showed all 80G as used. Next step was I looked at her documents folder, which was a little less than 1G. Looked at her programs folder ... little less than 8G. Next step was to run a search for tmp files to see what might be taking up all the rest of that space .... and this ginormous 67,000,000 byte file shows up as an IE update installation temp file. So, I went into msconfig, hid the MS system files in services, disabled all the rest. Started the computer back up. Deleted all the TMP files. Downloaded and installed FF. Uninstalled IE completely, then ran msconfig again, started up her other services, and restated her computer. Lo and behold .... she now has an 80 G hard drive showing 67G free. She kept looking at me and saying .... "Is there anything you CAN'T do??" ![]() |

Good morning all, it's 5:40 AM PST GST-8 on a dreary Monday morning. It's always the days that you would like to sleep in that you can't, because of some appointment, or simply a must go to work today day.
At least it's not snowing here, most everywhere else in Canada is below zero and some places on the east coast are without electricity because of a big dump of snow. ![]() I must take the skytrain into downdown this morning, but I'll wait till after the morning rush hour. ![]() |
