a bunch of questions about e-book and e-paper
Does any of the current e-book readers offer the posibilty to create custom aplications? Like tetris for example.
Is there any electronic paper based devices that can show colors and not only black/white? Does anyone have any details about electrowetting ? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrowetting) the article says "Electrowetting is now used in a wide range of applications from modulab to adjustable lenses, electronic displays and switches for optical fibers". Does anyone know about some electronic displays made using this technology? Is the Motorola FONE F3 the only phone that uses electronic paper? Is there any other planned mobile phone with e-paper display? thanks |

The iRex iLiad and (new) DR1000S can run 3rd party Linux apps (typically lightweight GTK+ based apps are best). The OpenInkPot alternative firmware for the Hanlin (and other devices), opens up the possibility of 3rd party apps, but the lack of a pointing input device makes porting existing apps harder. It is possible to add applications to the Sony's, but I don't know what is required to do so.
Currently EInk is 4, 8, or 16 level grey scale only. However, if you search the forums for color in the thread title you will find several examples of color EInk prototypes. |

Tetris and games that require dynamic screen movement are not currently very likely on e-INK devices. The update time is not zero or even short requiring nearly a second to redraw the screen. Other programs have already appeared for Sony devices, some iRex devices, and the open OS that currently can be added to the Jinke device.
The answer is a selective yes, so long as you use something that lends itself to e-INK display. Dale |
