Amazon announces: Echo

I wish wish wish the Echo could do that. Right now, I am using reminders on my phone to remind me to have my brother take his pills, but if I could set verbal reminders on the Echo, it could just tell him "It's time to take your 12:00 Pills" or "It's time to take your 6 PM pills". As it is now, if I leave the house and I'm gone at pill time, I have to call him on the phone to remind him. I did put in a request for that feature--I just hope that Amazon is better at listening to suggestions for the Echo than it is for the Kindles.

I use this indispensable app that will automatically send a text or an email to the recipient with a message/reminder. Or, can be set up to remind you to make a call with the contact and number popping up. It can be set for hourly, daily, weekly, monthly or yearly reminders. I set text reminders for myself routinely! I like it so much I eventually purchased the pro version:

I just got off the phone with Amazon. I tried to apply my gift balance to my order and the order is locked they transferred me over to Echo Support which he couldn't do it. He's got to get a supervisor to unlock the order. I hope I don't lose my place in line but if I do I will just cancel. He suppose to email when it's done.

Silly you can't change anything on a order that is over a month away.

Finally got my invitation Friday. Just placed my order and my estimated delivery date is June 1-July 7. Definitely the largest range I've ever seen on Amazon.

I put off ordering on purpose. I'm really tempted by it even though I can't really say I "need" it (can't really think of very many uses I'd have for it). This way I have a lot more time to decide and see what sort of updates Amazon introduces.

Me too. There's no downside to placing the order now, so I did, but I keep waffling on the silly thing.

I am with you. The more I learn about Echo the more I wonder if I would actually use it enough.

If they ever get my gift card applied toward the purchase I guess that will be the end of all ends if I will keep it or not then it wasn't meant to be as my Card doesn't have enough on it.

Kudos to Amazon! I just got a call and they were able to apply my gift balance to my Echo order so everything is a go! : D

Delivery date is still the same too.

I got my Echo a couple of days ago. There are some features I totally love, but I did want to say that the speaker quality is excellent for my audiobooks. Even if you can't stream Audible, which is a future possibility, the bluetooth connects every time. I actually prefer having my Nano close by for the control functions.

My favorite features are the timer and alarm clock. The alarm clock is especially useful for me to remind me to take my blood sugar 2 hours after I've eaten. The one on my meter is just barely in hearing range for me, so I don't always hear it.

My bro actually has the Prime account (I'm a subprime) and we're going to add his account as a household for my Echo so I can use his access to Prime Music. Currently, I can only play what is in my Amazon Cloud.

I am extremely relieved. It means Echo is paid for and I don't have to worry about it anymore. I get to keep my place in line, February 18th. I called yesterday talk to two Repts the last one was Echo Support and he called me back today as a followup. I thought that was nice because he told me he just email me when it was done.

Calling Amazon is the best bet. Their email support I am convinced is a robot that sometimes forwards it to a live human.

I sent a email asking if the Fire Phone would be getting upgraded to Sangria anytime soon. The reply back was I don't understand what you mean. What is Sangria? So I knew to call for this one.

I finally got the invite and ordered one, too. The May-July delivery window is better for my wallet anyway. Hopefully by then it will be updated and expanded further. I'm still on the fence about it but $100 off the price was just too hard to pass up.

I have to laugh at myself. For someone who had managed to basically stay out of the Amazon device ecosystem for years, in the space of a few months I now have a Paperwhite 2, a Fire HDX 7, a Fire Stick, and soon an Echo. I apparently drank the Kool-Aid…

I'd suggest for someone with a big of delivery date if you pay by Gift Card the money is taken out right then and there so say if your card gets compromised or you forget about the order it's already paid for. Because once you ordered the order is lock and it takes getting special permission to change it.

You can send a gift card to yourself via email you don't have to go to a store for one. I had a gift balance from various survey sites I did and then I sent myself a gift card to add onto it so I could paid completely for Echo with gift cards.

I received my Echo on Wednesday. Sounds better than I'd expected for music. A bit bass heavy for and talk radio and podcasts, but good if I keep volume down. I tried to pair it with my Asus laptop last night. It said it connected, but it didn't. I think there was a visual indication on my laptop bluetooth page that the signal was weak (there was an X on it). I'm trying again right now, but so far my laptop doesn't recognize the Echo (it took a few minutes last night). It lists an Apple TV, which I do not have!

I have an ipod nano and wonder how I would pair that with Echo. Do you set it up on the nano itself? My nano was purchased in 2014. My larger ipod (30GB) is much older, so I don't know whether it is bluetooth capable.
