Yes, I've worn a Tilley Hat for the past 20 years. I've two of them, same model but with different sized brims. This is the hat with the wider brim that I use in the hotter months.

The S.E. Asian sun is really brutal, and a good hat with wide brim is necessary. During the 2-3 cooler months I can get along with a brim that is about an inch smaller. Because of sweat, the summer hat gets washed in the machine every week, but even after almost 20 years, still looks new. It get's crushed into a corner of my camera bag or backpack, but comes out without a wrinkle. There is NOTHING like a Tilley hat! Had I the money or the inclination, I'd buy the company in a heartbeat. 10 years ago I hardly saw other people wearing them. This week alone I've seen about 5 on tourists. There is nothing like a Tilley hat for sun protection!

Yep - I too swear by Tilley hats. I use mine for both rain protection here in the UK and sun protection in Egypt, a place that I spend a lot of time in.

Mine is the "Outback" model, which I think has a wider brim than the standard version.

The 'Outback' model has a 3.5" front brim, which IS wider than the Tilley norm, and is made of waxed cotton. The LTMAirflow that I wear comes in two front brim sizes, 2.5/8th and 3.7/8, made of Tilley's special nylon. I chose the LTM because of the extra mesh venting along the top of the crown. In Thailand's heat, that becomes important. I also added extra grommets for even more venting. It has a foam insulating layer on the top of the crown as well for even more sun protection. I wish it had air-conditioning too...

Hmm.... a solar panel on the crown, a rechargable battery, and a small fan?

I think I know what to ask for for my birthday this year. After years of various cheap hats, a quality hat is probably a good investment.

Yes, Egypt is hot, but it's a dry heat, so humidity isn't generally a problem.

A Tilley hat is guaranteed for life. I had a problem with my first one after about three years. The nylon brim 'wire' broke inside the edging. It caused me to have to spend an extra 2 minutes shaping the hat when it came out of the washing machine. No big problem, but I wrote to Tilley about it, asking what I could do. Instead of answering my question, they sent me a new hat... Next Day Fed-Ex delivery.

Tilley hats are even guaranteed against loss.

Insofaras they give you a slight discount against buying a replacement, as I understand it. They are the "Amazon" of the hat world .

To my way of thinking, a 50% discount is a bit more than 'slight.'
No questions asked, just send in proof-of-purchase. With my replaced hat, they didn't even ask for that, nor even ask me to send them back the defective one! Tilley customer service is as good as their hats!

I have a T-2, a T-1, and the first of their winter wool hats. They've been all over the world, and are going strong. I also wear their shorts -- again, with a lifetime guarantee. When my dog ate through the pocket of one, trying to get the treats I'd forgotten were in there, they sent me another pair, even though it was ENTIRELY my fault. I love their stuff, even though it IS pricey. I would hate for the company to change its basic premise or quality.

Some fool was tailgating me and flashing his lights on interstate. When I pulled over enough for him to see the car ahead of me preventing me from speeding up, he gave me the finger.

Sometimes I think driving on Tidewater roads would be so very much more enjoyable with a .38 on my hip and a "00" license in my wallet.

It's the very worst driving transgression in my opinion. I have often wished I had James Bond's Aston Martin with the oil spraying out the back, or maybe the rockets... I'm far from a slow driver, but when you are stuck behind the driver ahead (who I give plenty of space to), what can you do?

There was an episode of 'Criminal Minds' in which a fed-up driver combined a sawed-off shotgun and a clip on window tray (like were used in the old A&W Rootbeer stands) to blast annoying drivers off the freeway. Hmmmm....
