Smile print "Hello World!"

Bonjour! Hello everyone

I'm Napoleon, I'm a researcher in the field of Fluid Dynamics willing to participate, learn and contribute actively and intensively to this forum.

I don't own any e-paper readers for the moment, hopefully i'll buy an
Irex Iliad 2nd Edition next January. So, for the moment, you'll be seeing me
all around asking -probably and most likely- silly and obvious questions
about that device.

So, that's all from Paris, la ville de l'amour, de la lumière, et du splendor...

Welcome to MobileRead.

In addition to reading articles in your field of research, do you read for entertainment? What types of books do you like? Do you mostly read books written in French or do you read novels in other languages?

bonjour et bienvenue, Napoleon.

i am sure you will find a lot of helpful replies to your silly questions around here. and if you'd like some silly replies to your silly questions, take a look in the lounge, where we are happy to assist you with all your silly needs.

since you are living in paris, allow me to mention the next mobileread apéro which is scheduled for the 31 january. you will be welcome to come ! even if there are no iliads present, there will be other e-ink liseuses there to try out. and if you have got your iliad already you can give us a demo of that ! i've never seen one, myself, i'd be interested to compare with the others.

à bientôt !

Well, thank you! I didn't expect such rapid and warm replies.
Thank you indeed.

@zelda:
Thanks for the invitation, I'll certainly be there if i'm in Paris for that date.

@Elsi:
I natively speak spanish, and I've studied english and german for many years now. I've learned french by living in France, where I'll plan to stay for another couple of years.
Answering to your questions, I do read a lot for entertainment, mostly novels and poetry. Scientific reading is almost 99% of the time done in english; otherwise I read as much in english as i do in french and spanish. Gotta admit it: I love reading! what about you? what do you read?

thanks again and see you around!

Thought you'd never ask. I'm an eclectic reader when it comes to fiction. I read very little non-fiction in the form of books. I do read quite a bit of technical material in my job as a software specialist. When I'm enrolled in graduate courses, I read the usual texts and articles. (I'm currently taking a break from my graduate studies.)

Reading is my main hobby/entertainment. I read well over 100 novels a year, so I keep a text file with information on each book that I complete, and from that I can produce some statistics. I have read 129 books so far in 2008. Of these, 71 were paper books and 4 were audio books, leaving the remaining 54 books as eBooks read on several devices. The Kindle is my primary eBook device. I also own a Sony PRS-505 with the lighted cover, so I've started buying some books from Baen which allows me to download both the MobiPocket and Sony versions. And thus I can switch off from device to device, taking advantage of the Sony's light when reading in the car at night.

As to genre, the bulk is about evenly split between mystery and SFF. I have read 10 historical novels and 6 chicklit books, though.

Like the majority of Americans, I only speak/read/write one language -- English. I studied Latin in high school, so I can sometimes figure out meaning/intent from articles in Spanish or Portuguese. When I find a research article in Spanish or Portuguese, if my own scan makes it seem pertinent, I'll send it out for proper translation.

Oh yes -- I know a bit of American Sign Language and can make myself understood in sign. My ability to read sign is more limited, but I can usually carry on a conversation well enough with a patient signer.

Hi Napoleon and welcome to the Forum. Be cautious about buying an eBook reader because the damn things are addictive. I got a Sony 505 back in January and can't live without it.

Be sure and let us know when you get an ILiad or whatever.

@cassidym:
Thanks for your welcome message and for your advice.
I'm sincerely awaiting for the day I finally get my Iliad and get addicted to it...
in the words of Nietzsche: "Ultimately one loves one’s desires and not the object one desires".

Bye!
