Everything You Want To Know About e-Reader Cases

In relation to "Going Caseless" thread, I find this article very helpful in categorizing the types of cases for E-Readers:
  1. Clip case – is a classic one piece snap-on case that is primarily designed to keep your phone safe from bumps, scratches and day to day wear. These are traditionally not made for e-readers or tablets. It’s made from impact-resistant polycarbonate and printed with rich, vibrant, high-gloss graphics from edge-to-edge. All ports for connectors and controls are fully accessible, and it’s thin enough to work with most docks and accessories.
  2. Hybrid case – this protective, two-piece case sports an impact resistant hard shell and a form-fitting TPU inner liner that protects against impacts and those “accidental” drops. The glossy outer shell is printed with rich, vibrant, high-gloss graphics from edge-to-edge that will safeguard your phone against scratches and also makes it easy to slide in and out of your pocket. Hybrid Cases are sometimes refereed to as the “Best of Both Worlds”, meaning they provide the most protection while remaining as svelte as possible.
  3. Bumper Case – provides heavy duty double-layer protection for the most demanding users. Its rugged two-piece design consists of a tough, shatter-resistant polycarbonate outer shell wrapped around thick impact-absorbing silicone. Know your e-reader is protected from drops — even on pavement or concrete. The inner silicone liner features hinged dust plugs for the headphone jack and charging ports while the glossy outer shell is scratch resistant.
  4. Skins – e-Reader skins are fun and decorative ways to add style to your device, while also offering a small amount of protection. They are not the same as cases, which are usually more focused on function and less on style. The skins attach directly to the surface and are easily peeled off for maximum flexibility. You can achieve a more unique look than most cases can manage.

(original article from Goodereader)

I usually go for clip-cases.

Many cases don't fit into these categories. Eg, the very popular leather (or fake leather) "book" style case doesn't fit any of the above.

Wow, that article is about as wrong as it could be - they're also saying that iPhone screens are more fragile than e-ink reader screens! Nope nope nope. And yeah, most ereader covers are leather-style folio cases or perhaps sleeves.

Goodereader. 'Nuff said.

I am one who prefers that my case be a leather one that makes my HD+ look like a book.

My Astak PP came with a fake leather Book-style case. The Reader snapped into plastic clips.

I bought a generic Tablet/Reader book-style case for my K4NT. I had purchased a slipcase for the K4 I gave my wife. It is so wimpy that all it is good for is keeping fingerprints off the screen when you grab it out of a tote bag

I think it's funny that the author states that eBay and Amazon tend to have the unfashionable plain cases (usually black). I recently looked for a case for my Fire HDX and my phone and ended up going through pages and pages of "fashionable" cases on both sites.

I have a book style case for my HDX and I guess you could say the same about the case I just bought for my phone-although it is more like a wallet, but the same general idea of the phone clipping into a plastic holder and surrounded by leather.

The book/folio style and sleeve cases seem to be the most popular cases for e-readers and tablets.

And I can't resist pointing out that the author said he doesn't use cases, most likely because he's young and doesn't bulk (sic) at buying new devices if necessary. Quite frankly I don't think age has anything to do with it. I've always taken care of my belongings, especially more expensive items like my electronic devices.

Skins should not even be mentioned as they have nothing to do with a case and are so not a case.

One might argue that a skin "encases" your reader, but I agree with you. It's really not a terribly good article, but that's not surprising considering the source of the original article (no disrespect intended to the person who posted it here).

It would help if you'd go to the original post and put in the source of the article so we'd know ahead of time that it's worthless (it's from GoodEReader).

For e-ink readers I like the flip style leather case, which unfortunately isn't very popular with case makers. I like flipping the case back over the top of the e-reader.

For tablets I like the kind of book-style case that can be an easel in landscape mode. So the device can stand alone in that orientation.

That's the style of the official Amazon "Origami" case for the Kindle Voyage.

picture shows matte; I see no high gloss (nor do I like gloss). I found the article poorly-written and irrelevant.
