if anyone want to donate via paypal but is worried about crrdit cards, you don't have to store any cards at paypal, I am pretty sure you can make a one of donation ( or a one purchase from any paypal enabled site) but inputting payment details without having them saved. you don't even have to have a paypal account,a s such to do that IIRC

This is correct, I use this option all the time now since I closed my Paypal account.

Not true. In the case of the Hypo-Alpia Adria, the very stupid government of Austria, without properly checking the books of the Hypo-Alpia Adria, took over that bank instead of letting it go bankrupt, and now the taxpayer in Austria will pay for this for many years to come. So millions of taxpayers will lose money for many years, as we are talking about billions of euros.
Probably, in the next few months, a parliamentary commission will start to examine this whole deal.

One of those taxpayers,

You're splitting hairs. The previous post was concerned about losing his money in PayPal, and I correctly pointed out that this is not a danger for people in the EU. Talk about how EU governments have treated banks is completely irrelevant to that fact. Using PayPal in the EU is safe: that's the only thing that is relevant here.

( by PayPal or not as their paranoia dictates )
that was the original topic, anyway, & may help keep things on topic

Original poster here : Paypal is loosing money when they don't play the game - and trust me, they really don't need nor want it. They only freeze money when it smells like an old Camembert forgotten on the dashboard...

Now, since calibre's developer team never push to infringe any copyright laws (they even position themselves against illegal copies), Paypal have *absolutely* no reason to block their account.

Sorry to tell you, but if you think that sending some money to calibre (or any other great software) using Paypal is too risky, you may just suffer from the "sea urchin in the pocket" disease...

PayPal is safe. Trust me. I've sent money from the US to the UK via PayPal no problem. I've bought many thing paying via PayPal. Also, I've used their phone support no problem. So I don't see what your problem is when it's not PayPal that has an issue but you.

Jon... have you actually read the thread?

The OP is perfectly happy with Paypal.

Random people interrupted the thread months after the OP left, satisfied, and decided "hey, it mentions Paypal!!! Must be the right place to pontificate about Paypal being eeevulz!"

The OP finally noticed, and decided to pop in and point out that as the OP, they don't really care, plus they are happy with Paypal, plus puppies...

@sylvainrodrigue - please don't post to old threads, especially threads that have drifted off topic as far as this one had.

Those who want to discuss paypal should try their facebook page

For the record : Donations can be made to the Kovid via means other than Paypal - click the "SUPPORT CALIBRE" button on the calibre home page
