How often do you restart your Fire?
I have to ask because my mother in law just called to tell me her Kindle wasn't doing anything. She couldn't unlock it. She has a Kindle Fire HD 7 2012 which she bought 4 months before the HD 7 2013 came out.
Are you ready for this? She has never restarted her Kindle since we set it up for her. ![]() ![]() ![]() It looks like me explaining bookmarks to her last year failed. I have to say I am impressed with the 2012 version of the Kindle Fire. Very impressed it could survive without a lock up for that long. After wanting to bash my head against the wall because my mother in law just refuses to follow simple instructions. We talked to my Father in law and we got it to restart by holding down the power button she swore up and down was not there. So it's all good now and her Kindle is working again. |

We only restart any of our tablets when necessary. Otherwise, they are always on.
The 2012 Fire HD is great hardware. Both of ours are running n2aOS Kitkat. They occasionally freeze up and have to be restarted. Our Fire HD 6 tablets have needed restarts, as do the Nook HD's once in a while. I don't think my Nexus 7 has ever needed a restart. Although it rebooted when it upgraded to Lollipop. It never freezes on me. It's sweet. |

The old one I had 18 months [I think] Never re-started it 6 months it also was used 24/7 til I got my new PC. This one I had 6 months not re-started it either. BTW I do clean the Silk History Daily. I got this message it would clear on its own but so far it hasn't ...anyone know how to explain to me to set it up to do it automaticly?

I have a 2012 8.9 HD. I don't recall every doing a restart on it. Just when it does it itself with some update. Seems a pretty stable tablet. Battery is getting a bit less lasting now though.
I did restart my HD6 a couple of times, but that was the Silk lock up issue it had. Nexus, can't recall now, I think I did a factory reset at one point, but not for any issues it had. Just need a blank slate. I don't think I ever restarted my original Fire, the 2011, first one that came out. But I don't use that now anymore really. I just charge it from time to time. Along with the rest of my stack of kindles. |

Whenever it acts a little funky, I restart it. I would say at least every 2 weeks. I have the same one as your mother-in-law.

Geez. It makes you wonder, it really does: would you let someone who didn't know where the brake and gas peddles were drive a car? That is pretty much what it is like with so many computer/tablet/smartphone users. They have no idea what they are using... but they want to use it anyway! Thankfully, when they careen off the analogy road they don't end up killing dozens of bystanders: they just frustrate their built-in phone support (the relatives who actually know what the thing is) on which they save tons of money and usually don't realize it.
I turn off all of my tablets at night and turn them back on in the morning. I see no reason to leave it on for 8-10 hours while I sleep. With my iPad, I almost never have to restart it during actual use. With my Fire tablet... I usually end up restarting it once or twice a day. It takes like 30 whole seconds to do it which is crazy unreasonable! ( ![]() I had to restart my Nexus 7 (2012, the 2013 was quite a bit more stable) frequently as well, but not nearly as frequently as my Fire tablet. The Fire tablet is EASILY the most fragile of the tablets that I have owned over the last few years. Last edited by Anthem; 01-05-2015 at 07:22 PM. |

You might have a point, there. I was loading 50 or so games to my DD's Fire 6 yesterday, and had to restart it twice b/c it froze up.

You talking about a Re-Start or just turning it off/on?

Not on mine! Off/on dose nothing to clear any web sites .... Where the re-start cleans web site history off & other things.

And regardless, that wouldn't actually have anything to do with the nature of a power cycle and what arbitrary naming conventions it uses. Is it possible there is some deep and subtle point I am missing? Because I have not got a clue what distinction you are trying to make. |

Well Read the 1st post! Then figure out which Cleans the History. Which is what Blossom was complaining about her mom not doing. Cause I never rebooted but I have turned it off. I know all the crap still going to be there when I turn it on.

(Opened tabs, yes. The historical logs, no.) Furthermore, the word reboot STILL means to turn it off and on again, as can be verified in the average dictionary. |
