On the other hand, you would't have to worry about it falling (like a feather) and breaking.

You get some of these Readers any lighter and you'll end up with a battery life of 1 day (if you are lucky). These new lighter thinner devices are a joke. What we want (well, what I want) is a little thicker and heavier so we can have a heftier battery to give us more life between charges.
I also want user replaceable batteries. I don't want to have to scrap my device just because the battery needs replacing if the device is still usable. |

No, I find my 220g Kobo Wifi to be quite light enough, and the newer Kobo readers are closer to 180g. There are many improvements I would prioritize over weight reduction. Solely considering hardware improvements, I would want flexible/bendable panels up to A3 in size with a 60ms page refresh and faster storage access (all without sacrificing battery life, of course) before I would worry about making readers lighter.

You know what happens to peak my interest here is the flexible eink screens which have a ton of possible applications including lower power consumption, and light weight. Also the introduction of new potentially more powerful and lighter power supplies.

The Kobo Glo at 185g is very comfortable for me to hold even for long periods, I have no complaints about weight at all. Although it's 30g heavier than my Sony PRS-350 (155g), I have to consider it also includes the light, so with the case it probably comes up the same. Surprisingly the PW2 at 206g is the heaviest, but I don't really use it other than the monthly free book offer through Prime.
When I have to read PDFs though on a 7" Asus tablet at 302g, that gets annoying where I have to use only certain positions to hold it because the weight is definitely a comfort factor, it can be uncomfortable to hold for longer periods. I'm pretty happy with the overall weight of ereaders right now. Not sure how they can go much lighter without giving up the long battery life, and that's a compromise I wouldn't want to make... less weight for less battery time. |

What's the point of this if a lighter device isn't a higher priority: To facilitate the use of larger batteries without altering the form or substantially altering the mass, of course. |

I was thinking more for a foldable device that 1) protects the panel and 2) reduces the size of the device when you're not using it. Especially for sizes larger than the current 6 or 7 inch panels. (Hence the desire for A3-size panels for two facing A4 pages.) I still find reading textbooks and PDFs on such a small screen unworkable. |
