Exactly this. I feel like I have to go into warrior mode whenever I have to contact Kobo CS. Just awful

And it's not just poorly-executed customer service, Kobo's policies are substandard. I've had to return (one apiece) ereaders to Amazon, B&N, and Kobo. With Amazon and B&N, it took one phone call and they sent me a replacement and then I shipped the defective unit back in the pre-paid mailer that came with it. With Kobo, after long negotiations which included sending them pictures of the reader, I had to return it at my own expense and before getting the replacement.

I really really prefer epub readers, but once my trusty Sonys give up the ghost, I suspect I'll feel compelled to get a Kindle. Kobo's just too risky a proposition, especially without a local purveyor.

After finally making contact with Kobo through Facebook (which I did because no one emailed as promised or replied to my Customer Service request) who put me onto a CS rep, Christopher and sending through screenshots of everything, I was told just before Christmas that my Kobos would be sent after Boxing Day.
This morning, to my great surprise, I received an email response from the Customer Support inquiry I sent them back on the 18th. Keep in mind, this has been the only response from that inquiry. They said since they had tried unsuccessfully to contact me (an outright lie) they were closing the ticket and considering the matter closed.
WTF?? I replied and said I had been in contact on Facebook and with Christopher. They replied and basically said I was lying. They said they hadnt received any screenshots from me at all.
So I replied and sent more screenshots of the winning messages, as well as screenshots of the Facebook messages and the emails (which showed the screenshots Kobo say I didnt send) from Christopher who said the Kobo's were being sent.
I know by this stage I shouldnt be so shocked at how Kobo works but I am seriously floored by it all, on so many levels.
How can such a huge company have absolutley no idea who wins their prizes and have such appalling records of communications between themselves and their customers?
Kobo have made me feel like a deceitful thief, trying to rob them of free Kobos. Winning the first one was awesome, winning 2 was incredibly exciting, but any joy I had has well and truly been eroded away by Kobo. I am thinking this is their standard business plan - ignore your customers for as long as possible before being blatantly rude in the hopes they will just go away.
I hope other winners are having better luck than me.

So I sent the Kobo's customer service (really!!?? what a misnomer!) a help request, no response for 3 days and after another 2 emails from me and another 4 days later, they finally replied that they have no details of the transaction and that the transaction # that I received from them in the 1st email was not valid!!??? WTH!! They went on to say they have no idea when they will fix this issue and suggested that I make another purchase, altho they said that they cannot guarantee that the same thing wont happen again!

I told them that I was too disgusted to bother and will take my business elsewhere, and to confirm that the transaction was cancelled. This was confimed by the CS rep. But two weeks later, I get an email from Kobo's customer service saying that they unsuccessfully tried to contact me about my help ticket! WTH!! It seems that Kobo's systems (both technical and departmental communications ) are all FXXKed up!

I give up on Kobo! And I havent bought anything from them for months, since the promo codes have all dried up. Sad, really.
I've started a thread in the Kobo devices sub-forum called 'How to contact Kobo when you win a device in a Contest'. Could members please post their experiences in that thread because Brodie from Kobo has been monitoring that forum and acting on information provided to her. So we may get some action!! And those of you who have previously won devices and gave up trying to claim them may now receive them.

I always miss the codes. Some people must live on here! If anyone has a spare one going, I would be most grateful

The way things are these days with kobo that's gonna be home to some tumbleweeds real soon. Who's ever won?

Better to start a thread for people who don't ever win, way more forum interaction and guaranteed japes. I'm already there.

Kobo's got some sort of odd 'let's find out more about you' thingo going on now. You access it from the home page on kobobooks.com (see the countries applicable in the Fine print section)

It's called 'Who is your Literary Alter Ego?' and to enter you run a short video and answer questions like: what is your favourite .... and then you choose from one of the images in that group. I chose not to answer any of these and it auto went through them all and at the end it decided that I was like Atticus Finch!!

Woot woot because as I say I did not answer any questions!!!

Anyway the 30% code one gets for being part of this strange event is:

alterego30

The fine print ....

Spoiler:
Legal
Discount code is valid for 30% off selected titles. Discount code can only be used once per customer, per Kobo account. Offer valid from December 3, 2014 at 12:00 AM EST through January 15th, 2015, at 11:59 PM EST. Offer valid in Canada, United States, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, the Philippines, Switzerland, Singapore, South Africa and India. This offer is not valid in conjunction with any other offer or promotion and cannot be used to adjust amount paid on previous purchases. Promotional code must be entered at time of purchase to qualify for this discount. Discounts cannot be applied nor the discount value refunded once a purchase is complete. Rakuten Kobo Inc. reserves the right to change or cancel this offer at any time without notice.

Note: offer valid in India!! (Although interestingly the promo itself is not showing on the India home page ....

Here is the Aus list for books that can bought using that code:
http://store.kobobooks.com/List/save...?sort=PriceAsc

It's only 20 books, the great majority of which are expensive eg 17 of the books are $9.89 or greater. And 14 of those books are greater than $13.59.

Yeah right!

I answered the questions and it said I was charming and funny! I wonder if the list is the same if you answer differently each time. The code for 30 percent off was the same as yours.

^ yeah my guess is that it's a fixed list for each of the participating countries irrespective of the 'type' decided.

But .... Kobo learns more about the individual's likes so that means a push of those types of books will be comin' at ya!

By the way I wasn't logged in at the time of whizzing through the video. Therefore Kobo just assumes Aus - but can't direct anything at my account.

Well, Kobo now knows that I like chocolate cake and bananas. They'll probably turn that over to the NSA and then, gosh. EVERYONE WILL KNOW.
