Since Kobo changed the way they do sales I think I no longer need this support thread. I can't remember the last time I bought a book. Thanks Kobo!

I'm not even halfway into New Year's Day and already an ebook is singing its siren song. This is going to be a long year.

I bought two books before midnight last night so they wouldn't count against my new limit of 4 books purchased monthly. Just now I thought, "Hmmm, maybe I should make that five books monthly...."

Four books a month. Yes, issybird, a long year....

Heh, I got in one last purchase yesterday, too.

I'm luckier than you, though, my limit's one per week. I'll get to buy four more books this year than you!

(Pssst! If you look upthread, you'll see you publicly committed to one per week, also. You're welcome.)

I have to report that (apart from subscriptions) I have already bought one book this year. But it was the rest of a series I started reading last year, and was at a bit reduction on the normal price.

I have started to add wanted books to a list in my 2015 challenge post, so that I can judge other books against them, and also so that I can remember to buy them if a good coupon comes along!

For me too!! I bought an insane amount of books the last couple months. Of course there's always more books to be bought! The one I want comes out on Tuesday. It is from a favorite author though (Brandon Sanderson) so it's okay?? One last book and then I have to quit buying for a loooooooooong time!

If I can keep my ebook buying down to three a week I'll be extremely pleased.

I've already got 4 bought books, 1 freebie (via coupon) and 2 gifts added to my TBR this year! And it isn't even the end of Jan 1st!

Admittedly, three of those four bought books are subscriptions.

Meeting my 2015 goals might be a bit of a challenge after all.

Perhaps I'm not taking this seriously enough!
I think we're pretty close in terms of percentage of books likely to be read in 2015. I read (not including audiobooks) slightly over a hundred books last year while you were pushing 300, IIRC. The slight difference in percentage is likely offset by the pbooks and library books included in my total.

This is really the sobering aspect! Even if I, through great force of will, keep my purchases down to one per week, I'll barely dent the TBR. I've got years' worth of reading without buying anything new.

Exactly. If I do keep to under three books a week, I'll reduce my TBR by about 50 books. Perhaps a few more if I'm lucky.

If I bought no more ebooks and cancelled my subscriptions, I'd still have three years of reading in just my bought books, let alone the freebies that I already have or might get.

On the other hand, this is an excellent problem to have. It's really wonderful that I have so many books that I'm looking forward to reading.

My biggest temptations are the books my Goodreads friends are reading or want to read. I like Goodreads for tracking my books so I'm not giving it up; I suppose I could take all my friends off my top friend list so I don't see their feeds, but that seems pretty drastic.

I just have to develop my powers of resistance.

I considered this, but going cold turkey may be too harsh for me. I cut my subscriptions to three threads in genres in which I am so opinionated I'm unlikely to be rash. The threads which are as alluring as a pancake to a burro (I've attended burro races) are now banned from my eyes...except for the two or three times today I took a peek. But I will NOT subscribe.

A Test of Wills by Charles Todd is on sale today and it is on my wish list. I plan to read it next month along with Maisie Dobbs and A Duty to the Dead. But it feels like a setup for failure to buy the first book on the first day of the year. Now I am distressed.
