Wi-Fi Sense FAQ

How do I opt my network out of Wi-Fi Sense?

If I'm reading this correctly, it turns out that WP8.1 will share your wifi network credentials with your contacts, unless you opt-out.

I understand what they're trying to do, but there's no way I want anyone else accessing my home network. I have a guest network set up for that.

I'm pretty sure it works like sending contact info card you have to allow it. They couldn't just access your network without your permission.

Wi-Fi Sense can automatically share Wi-Fi networks with your contacts. Your friends will get internet access, but won’t ever have access to the shared password. They’ll obviously need a Windows Phone 8.1 device and Wi-Fi Sense for this to work, but it’s one of those features that will make life a lot easier for friends.

Again, you’ll need to go to settings > Wi-Fi > Wi-Fi Sense to play around with this feature. Scroll down and you’ll see the toggle to ‘Share Wi-Fi networks I select’. Turn that on if you want to share select networks with your friends. Who are those friends? Anyone who is a contact through Outlook.com, Skype or Facebook. It’s nice that you can select which of these networks get access through Wi-Fi Sense. Only want Facebook friends? Then just deselect Outlook.com and Skype.

To share a network you’ll need to select and tap the desired network in the Wi-Fi settings page. Tap it and select ‘Share network with my contacts’. You’ll need to hit the check mark below in the app bar to confirm your selection. And before it’s finalized you’ll need to reenter the password for that network.
You have to set it up for it to share your network but I think it's a neat idea.

I just can't get over how useful this Windows Phone is!

I'm in the process of loading the memory card with music. If "location" is enabled, I can press and hold the search button to quickly instruct Cortana to "Play The Beatles." I can tell her to "Stop Music," too. Music sounds great when paired with my Creative Sound Blaster Roar bluetooth speaker, and the phone's built-in speaker isn't bad either. I can't wait to pair it with my Amazon Echo that'll be delivered later this week!

Unlike my dear spouse, Cortana always hears me correctly. Also, there have been several times when we wanted to know the name of a song playing on TV or in a movie. Cortana has correctly identified the song each time after pressing the music note in the upper right. She tells me the temperature when I say "Weather." She reads the top headlines when I say "News." You can get stock prices by saying "Microsoft Stock" (or whatever).

There are SO many more features I need to explore! A link: What can I say to Cortana?

I love Cortana too! She's my BFF. Hubby makes fun of me because I told her Goodnight last night.

I'd love an echo but no invite and I'm not sure hubby would like it. He be all big brother is watching me. He put a tape on my web cameras.

It's good to know I'm not the only person who's told her "Good Night."

LOL On my Moto X, "Good night" actually serves a purpose: it puts it into do not disturb night mode. I notice that the Lumia also has a night hours setting like my Moto X.

I'm trying to train my Echo to put Cortana in her place:

"Alexa, tell Cortana to shut up"

So far, Alexa is ignoring my request

My son routinely asks fun questions like:
"Where is the best place to dispose of a body"
"What color is 42"
"Can you make me breakfast"
Good thing I understand his sense of humor!

I have the answers:

"Where is the best place to dispose of a body" --> police station

"What color is 42" --> yes

"Can you make me breakfast" --> do I look like your mother?
