Kindle pushing next book in series while in the book!

Was there an update for the Kindle?

I am currently reading Book 6 of the "Malazan: Book of the Fallen" on my Kindle Voyage.

Today, when I was in the book and brought up the menu (by pressing near top of screen) a big notice pops up on the bottom telling me what Book 7 in the series is along with a big "buy it now" button.

This is new and I am not sure I like it, haha. If you wanna push stuff after I finish a book or when I am at the Kindle main menu, fine. But not while I am reading a book and just going to the options to adjust the light brightness.

I've never seen that. I wonder if it's a Voyage feature.

Did you have to manually dismiss it, or was it down at the bottom where the title & progress information is normally displayed? Did you happen to grab a screenshot? (touch two opposite corners, it gets saved at the root of the device's file structure)

Yeah, I know I can un-subscribe from the special features, I was just pointing out that this is the first time they were advertising from within a book.

We knew it was coming a couple of years ago. Rumors. Not surprised. The day they start advertising in the middle of a non-SO book is the day I stop buying from them.

True, but how they deliver those SOs are up to them. If I buy a book and they are hitting me in the middle of the book even when I have my settings set not to receive ads then something will need to be changed.

Seeing as it would only be Amazon doing it, it could be time to find a different brand Reader.

Did it actually pop up on the page you displayed? Seems to me you were 99% through the book... and had passed the "Before you go..." (rate the book, more books by yada yada yada) page?

Thanks for that tidbit, I never realized it was already in there and now I am surprised I didn't come across it before.

When it first popped up, I was around 30 pages from the end. The screenshot was even closer to the end but I hadn't reached the "you finished, rate this book" thing yet which always brought up the next in series.

If it really only happens on the last 30 pages of an 800 page book, then I won't mind. Like I said, I am surprised I had never seen it before if it has always been there since almost everything I read is some kind of series.

I think this Voyage firmware update was first pushed the middle of November? Maybe your Kindle updated OTA (over the air) and you didn't realize it, relatively recently.

I'm not sure at what point that "You finished..." is triggered. I've seen it at the verrry end after samples of other books, and also at the end of a book which still has another 10% of sample books after the book ending.

At the end of a book to request a review is fine for me, or to suggest the next in a series. Any other place is out of place and has no business there IMO. This makes me even happier that I returned my KVs and am not accepting updates.

I remember it the Bad old days of Paper backs I was in the middle or a Romance a gf lent me there right dab in the middle of the book was a card type page advertising the other books by the Author! IF big IF they just copied on of the books for ebook format then they proably copied the ads without realizing it. Just let CS know & they will remove the ad.

It looks like OP was in the glossary. It's quite possible the EOB was coded at the end of the text, not the end of the glossary, with the expectation that most people don't read the glossary front to back.

I think the feature is cool, actually. I have a miserable time keeping track of series books and haven't found really good way to do it that isn't labor-intensive that I can use when I'm away from wifi. (When I have wifi, I use FictFact.)
