I didn't install the SIM card, and it works fine without it. I switched Airplane Mode on before turning on wi-fi. It doesn't nag me about lack of a SIM card that way.
Was about to say the same thing. It prompts me once at bootup (whether airplane mode is on or off), but I don't see any other advantages to inserting the SIM card.

I would think it would shorten battery life if nothing else with it installed. I haven't installed mine.

I thought I read somewhere that there were fewer nag screens if the SIM was installed. I didn't try without it. Glad to know it works either way.

ETA - I just checked, there is a SIM error message at startup if it's not installed. So I'm leaving it in. I don't see that it would draw any power from the battery as long as airplane mode is on.

I didn't install the SIM card and I don't put it in airplane mode. I get no nags.

Contacts might be stored on a sim card, if you want them on your device. Not sure tho.

Thanks! I'll try turning airplane mode off then.

I think you said you never restarted yours. That's the only time it nags with no SIM card installed.

I rarely do a complete shutdown on my devices. I let 'em sleep.

Me too, but if you let it run out of juice or do an update, sometimes you can't help a reboot. Also, this IS Windows...

So true! I can say this was a well $20 well spent. This little phone is great for playing music. The speakers for me is decent for a personal radio. I have it on volume 1 which is plenty enough for me to hear it but not others in the next room or apartment.

Cortana is my new best friend! She sets reminders, alarms, tells me the weather and news headlines and she can do simple calculations.

I've also got Tapatalk and Facebook installed which is nice not to have to run down the battery on my Fire Phone.

Thanks for starting this thread. I picked up the Amazon deal on this phone - couldn't resist it - but haven't opened the package yet (been playing with my Kindle Paperwhite instead - lol).

I actually have ATT's pay-as-you-go service so it'll be interesting to see if my SIM card works in this phone.

Yes it does. However the card size might be different. AT&T store will fix it for you for free.

That is probably the most useful piece of succinct information to help new users of the Windows Phone UI.

Even the FM radio has "sideways stuff going on" as the method to manually tune to stations. Who woulda thunk it?
