Honestly for me, it's easier to obtain epubs than other files imo. And I like the LRF format for some reason (David-karma all day long). I don't need all the extras the other readers come with. I download some nature sounds I love, put on my head phones, light some candles and go to town lol.

I've been using Sony ereaders since the PRS-500. While the PRS-500 was a good ereader, it had room for improvement. As an example, you couldn't go directly to a specific page (you could only go to a percentage of the book or jump by 10 pages forward or back).

The PRS-505 was a significant improvement over the PRS-500. For me the PRS-505 is the best ereader they ever released, and the reason I recently purchased a second one (after my original's battery basically wore out). I do have a PRS-600 and while it has a few nice additional features over the PRS-505, I didn't find it as a good an ereader as the PRS-505 (as an example, the screen wasn't as sharp).

The among reasons I prefer my PRS-505 over more recent ereaders are:
  • No touch screen.
  • Well-laid out physical buttons
  • E-ink screen for easy reading
  • Long battery life
  • No wi-fi
  • An interface specifically designed for ebook reading
I'm very happy with PRS-505 and hope that, when it reaches the end of its usable life, I'm able to find an ereader that works as well for reading ebooks.

I still love mine, too. The Kindle was so tacky. The Sony Reader was so elegant. I, too, am very disappointed in Sony. How sad they let us down.

Newer devices like the H2O have better eInk screen for even easier reading, longer battery life and the touch interface is better on the H2O then the 505 as I can just touch the book I want to read and it opens. The 505's biggest failing (IMHO) is the old version of ADE used. It's so old it doesn't have full justification which is just no good. It looks awful (IMHO) to be left justified only. The h2O has full justification with hyphenation and the hyphenation doesn't go crazy like the nook STR does.

Thanks for the info. When my PRS-505 reaches the end of its useful life I will take a look at the H2O. One of the reasons I've been dissatisfied with touch screens is that the ones I've used tended to operate inconsistently. As an example, on my NookHD I sometimes get the lookup function when I try to turn the page and other times the page zooms in.

Justification hasn't been an issue for me since I prefer to read with the paragraphs set to ragged right and that is how I format the ebooks I make for my ereader (as PDFs). I don't dislike full justification except when it is used with very thin paragraphs (so you end up with some lines consisting of two words with a large amount of space between them). In the same way, I prefer no hyphenation when reading (as with justification it's just my preference).

You cannot compare a tablet to a Reader. Two different things. Plus, you really cannot compare one brand to another. Just because one brand has touch screen issues does not mean another brand will. The I don't have problems with the H2O turning the page and getting text highlighted.

I've used a 650 and a T1 also without touch screen issues with turning pages.

Solitaire1 - you'd like the T3 if you can still get one.

I checked for updates over wi-fi when I received it, and the wi-fi has been turned off ever since.

- Much better screen than the 350, which was itself much better than the 505.
- Almost as small as the 350 despite having a larger 6" screen
- Has buttons (as well as a touchscreen that works well)
- Very nice built-in screen cover (auto on when opened and folds back out of the way comfortably)

Don't forget a higher resolution screen at 1024x758 instead of 800x600. Also, the T3 is faster.

Thanks for the feedback. I had a T-1 and had problems with it so I ended up returning it (as an example, I'd choose one book and different book would display).

Unfortunately, since Sony no longer in the ebook business (despite producing some great ebook readers), I'd be very leery of purchasing another Sony ebook reader. The main reason I recently purchased a PRS-505 is that I knew I could use Calibre to manage the content on it (I have Windows 8 and the Sony Reader Library wouldn't work on it), and since it's basically new I should be good for a couple of years before the battery life becomes an issue. Pleasant surprise was that it supported EPUB right out of the box (which my original PRS-505 did not), which was an added benefit.

I recently went on a 5 week holiday and purchased a T3 before I went I used it a lot while away and loved it!! It's a joy to read on and a very nice improvement on my old 650. Very much still loving my Sonys such a pity they're no longer making them

J, I looked everywhere and finally ordered one but it was the wrong one.

Sony said the battery was on back order and cost ~$90.

I gave up.

If an actual source of batteries for the T series and/or the 950 do show up, no doubt it will be shouted all over the Sony forum.

You could try to replace the battery, especially if you still have your old 505. Video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iLHgLz9LYMA

Though I believe I read that you have to be very careful with the ribbon cable, particularly when sliding the internal part in and out.

Even if this type of repair isn't your cup of tea, you might be able to find someone you know who would be willing to try it.

As JSWolf and Coops said the T3 is pretty spiffy.

I now have 5 of them which is a bit crazy but 3 were at $39.95. (I paid $375 for my first Sony ereader).

I use 4 of them regularly (haven't touched my Aura HD in a year IIRC).

I have mystery on one, fantasy on another and two with a mixture which I keep in my backpacks for when I go out.

One is still in the box as I was thinking to give it as Christmas gift, but the person I was going to give it to bought their own.

Soon it will come out of it's box and become my kitchen recipe ereader I think.

Can't go wrong with a T3, Sony out of the business or not IMO.
