When I try to open large epub/mobi files with koreader it usually freezes for a long time (4-5 minutes) and then crashes (I see that during this time CPU usage goes to 95%+ and memory usage by luajit climbs up to 60-70MB for the files below). For example, this happens for either of the following files: tools.ietf.org/ebook/rfc.mobi & tools.ietf.org/ebook/rfc.epub. Native kindle's reader has no problem with such files (the mobi ones) - they open immediately. Is there is a way to enable koreader to read such files?

Hello!

I can't transfer fb2 files via the OPDS local calibre catalog. All the other formats show up (AZW3, EPUB, MOBI), but the fb2 books are missing.

I've tried to change the format mime type in opdsbrowser.lua to application/fb2, application/x-fictionbook, text/fb2 and text/xml with no success.

Any help is appreciated.

Now that sounds familar - It may have been fixed already.
What version KOReader are you running?

That information will probably be needed by someone more familar with KOReader than I am.

This is koreader-stable-v2014.11 with the fixed opdsbrowser.lua.

(I read the posts about the zipped fb2 files.)

While reading a book, pressing bottom-right corner causes koreader to freeze for about a minute and then device reboots. Is there a way to solve this problem?

I am using v2014.11-stable, PW2 with firmware 5.4.5.1.

Don't press the bottom right corner.

By "Press" do you mean exactly that?
A firm press on the bottom-right corner (of the case) or do you mean a light touch to the bottom right corner of the screen?

Try to determine if you have a hardware problem, by using only the lightest touch that should activate the screen - don't **PRESS** anything.

By "press" I mean a light tap on the display. There is no problem with native reader, only in koreader. The problem is 100% reproducible with any format (I tried mobi, epub, pdf & djvu). Also, by 'bottom-right' corner I mean a corner relatively to a text - if text is displayed in a landscape mode this is a different corner (upper-right)

Thanks, that makes it clear to even me.

That does make it almost certain a software problem.

I had to ask, because there are some electronics real close to the underside of the bezel at that corner.

Does KOReader support own screensavers? Is there an folder where i can put the screensaver pictures in or how does this work?

Not on Kindles. There, the native framework's suspend management is used, including screen savers.

The "fuzzy" search algorithm that stardict implements can give inadequate results sometimes like in this example:

"handen" (Swedish "the hand", article -en is appended to "hand")

returns 9 not even close hits in this order (from a Swedish dictionary):

anden, banden, bandens, handel, handeln, handels, hinden, hindens, hunden, tanden

but not the correct match "hand" which is indeed contained in the dictionary.

There seem to be 2 problems with this look-up algorithm:

1. If there is no exact match, stardict falls back to a fuzzy search, allowing character replacements/insertions/deletions everywhere in the word. It would be more adequate to return a list of words starting with the query.

2. In most Europen languages, words roots can be found by manipulating endings, e.g., typically --> typical. This is language specific but makes dictionaries much more efficient.

Anyone else stumbled over this? Any suggestions?

AFAIK, KOReader passes all dictionary searches on to the command line version of StarDict, sdcv, which has some lookup bugs.
I.e., if sdcv can't find it, neither can KOReader. You can test your dictionary with the Windows build of sdcv. (Put the executable and all dictionary files in the same folder and run sdcv at a command line prompt with the word as the argument.)

BTW, StarDict supports inflections, however, they need to be defined in the dictionary.

StarDict dictionaries with inflections come with an additional .syn file. If your dictionary didn't come with a .syn file, you'll need to decompile the StarDict dictionary with StarDict Editor and add inflections to each entry.
